Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.

Join Central Virginia Community College as an Applications Engineer and play a key role in supporting the systems that power our institution. In this position, you will provide both technical and functional support for enterprise applications that drive recruitment, class scheduling, advising, and student success.

You will work closely with departments across the college to identify opportunities for improvement, implement system enhancements, and deliver practical solutions that streamline operations and improve outcomes. This role goes beyond day-to-day support; you will help shape how technology is used to support students and advance institutional priorities.

As an Applications Engineer, you will proactively identify and implement solutions that increase efficiency, improve data quality, and enhance the user experience. Your work will directly contribute to a more effective, data-informed college environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide comprehensive technical and functional support for EAB Navigate (Student Success and Enrollment Success), including serving as system administrator.
  • Review, analyze, and improve departmental business processes to maximize system effectiveness and adoption.
  • Support and integrate additional enterprise systems, including reporting platforms, workflow automation tools, and identity/access management systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of technical and functional issues across supported platforms.
  • Proactively identify and implement integrations between EAB Navigate and other college systems.
  • Develop training materials and deliver training to end-users across the college.
  • Maintain academic programs and pathways within supported systems (EAB and Ad Astra).
  • Participate in vendor meetings, system implementations, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Provide support for Ad Astra scheduling, reporting, and room utilization analytics.
  • Support Student Information System (SIS) data integrations, including student groups, class scheduling, and application data.
  • Develop, validate, and deliver reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Manage system access in alignment with security, compliance, and audit requirements.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience reporting tools
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis functions, pivot tables and data validation techniques.
  • Experience with system integrations, data mapping, or automation tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • General understanding of software support principles and the software development lifecycle.
  • Ability to document and improve business processes.
  • Understanding of college operations, particularly non-instructional areas.
  • Knowledge of information security principles and best practices.
  • Understanding of project management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and integrating software systems.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience supporting enterprise systems (SIS, CRM, scheduling, advising platforms).
  • Experience with cloud-based applications and infrastructure.
  • Experience writing and troubleshooting SQL queries and supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
