Applications Engineer – Industrial Automation

Direct Hire | Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid) $90k–$100k

Are you an experienced Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer who enjoys working directly with customers to solve manufacturing challenges?

We're partnering with a leading industrial automation systems integrator to add an Applications Engineer to their growing team. This hybrid role combines technical consulting, solution development, estimating, and customer interaction. You'll work closely with customers and the engineering team to develop automation solutions for manufacturing facilities across a variety of industries.

Description:

  • Meet with customers to understand manufacturing processes, challenges, and automation goals
  • Develop project scope, technical proposals, labor estimates, and Bills of Material (BOMs)
  • Recommend PLC, HMI, networking, software, and hardware solutions based on customer requirements
  • Present technical proposals and explain recommended solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Support account managers by identifying automation improvements and future project opportunities
  • Build relationships with customers, vendors, and technology partners
  • Stay current on emerging automation technologies, industrial networking, and manufacturing trends
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites for project scoping, meetings, and trade shows (approximately 15%)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an Associate degree in Engineering Technology with relevant industrial automation experience
  • Experience with industrial controls, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, industrial networking, or system integration
  • Ability to develop project estimates, proposals, and technical documentation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to customers
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with engineering and sales teams

Preferred Experience:

  • Industrial automation systems integration
  • Manufacturing process automation
  • PLC/HMI platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition, FactoryTalk, or similar technologies
