Role Description
We are seeking a full-time Applications Engineering Manager for an on-site position at our Bay City, MI location. The Applications Engineering Manager directs and coordinates the activities of the Applications Engineering department as it assists the Sales department in providing RWC's customers with innovative equipment concepts, competitive pricing, quality proposals, in order to secure purchase orders, and then to provide RWC departments with complete information that will allow them to proficiently design and build machines in accordance with job terms and specifications in support of the RWC Corporate Mission.
Essential Functions
Develops, implements, and directs operational standards for application engineers and support staff to ensure the timely and effective preparation of customer proposals at the proper quality level.
Works closely with Vice President of Sales to determine appropriate request for quotations to pursue.
Develops, implements, and directs operational standards for application engineers and support staff to ensure accurate costing on all estimates.
Perform risk assessments of projects and advise Sales.
Determine appropriate staffing and scheduling requirements within the Applications Department. This includes coordination of the work with the Sales and Engineering Departments.
Develops, approves, and administers all policies pertaining to the Applications Department, ensuring all company developed and or governmental mandated policies and regulations are met as a minimum.
Develops, approves, and administers operational budgets for the Applications Department.
Coordinates, approves, and implements the purchase and installation of new equipment into the applications engineering process.
Hires, trains, assigns, and evaluates (including rewarding and or disciplining) subordinate Applications Department employees.
Maintains AE costing library for accurate pricing.
Responsible for maintaining operations consistent with RWC's standards and procedures.
Maintain cost record history to assure that the cost records used by applications engineers are adjusted in accordance with information from post review meetings, prior to filing.
Schedules and Leads Project Launch meetings for new projects.
Schedules and leads Post‑Mortem Meetings for completed projects and maintain records.
Essential Qualifications
A level of knowledge generally associated with completion of a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering or related areas.
A minimum of ten years' experience within an applications engineering environment with a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
Administration and organizational skills sufficient to coordinate and direct the activities of the Applications Engineering Department.
Analytical ability sufficient to devise and implement appropriate and effective plans, goals, policies and procedures for the applications engineering function within the applications engineering department.
Interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively deal with customers, vendors, subordinate employees, and other managers often under limited time constraints.
Knowledge of basic computer skills and the ability to adapt to all applicable software.
Basic knowledge of Excel, Word, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks.
