    Applications Engineering Manager – Wire EDM

    Location: Sudbury, MA preferred | Additional location flexibility for qualified candidates (Chicago or Detroit)

    Travel: Up to 30%

    Compensation: $140,000–$180,000+ depending on experience

    We are partnering with an established machine tool organization to hire an Applications Engineering Manager – Wire EDM. This is a hands-on technical leadership position for someone who has deep Wire EDM expertise and can serve as both a technical resource to customers and a leader to an applications engineering team.

    The ideal candidate has extensive experience with FANUC Robocut equipment and understands Wire EDM well beyond basic machine operation. We are looking for someone who can troubleshoot complex applications, optimize cutting processes, develop turnkey solutions, support customers and sales teams, and mentor other applications engineers.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    • Lead Wire EDM applications engineering activities and provide technical direction to the applications team
    • Serve as a subject matter expert for FANUC Robocut Wire EDM systems
    • Develop and optimize Wire EDM processes, cutting parameters, machine setups, and programming
    • Perform test cuts, time studies, demonstrations, and application feasibility evaluations
    • Develop turnkey solutions involving programming, fixturing, automation, and complex machining applications
    • Support sales teams during the technical portion of the sales process
    • Work directly with customers to solve challenging machining and application issues
    • Provide customer training on machine operation, programming, maintenance, and process optimization
    • Support automation and unattended Wire EDM applications
    • Develop and mentor applications engineers and help strengthen the team's technical capabilities
    • Work closely with engineering and manufacturing partners on new technology, applications, and product improvements

    What We’re Looking For

    • 8+ years of hands-on Wire EDM applications or machining experience
    • Strong knowledge of FANUC Robocut highly preferred
    • Previous leadership, supervisory, or technical team lead experience
    • Advanced understanding of Wire EDM processes including cutting conditions, wire tension, dielectric management, surface finish, taper cutting, and process optimization
    • Experience programming Wire EDM equipment using G & M code
    • Experience machining materials such as hardened steels, carbide, titanium, copper alloys, and/or superalloys
    • CAD/CAM experience related to EDM applications
    • Experience with CAM-i, Mastercam, Esprit, or similar software is a plus
    • Experience developing turnkey machining solutions is highly desirable
    • Previous experience within a machine tool OEM, distributor, or applications engineering environment is preferred
    • Strong customer-facing communication and troubleshooting skills
    • Ability to lead and develop technically skilled engineers

    A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent technical education combined with extensive Wire EDM experience will also be considered.

    This position offers a strong opportunity for an experienced Wire EDM professional who wants to remain technically hands-on while stepping into a broader leadership role. The individual will have significant influence over applications strategy, customer solutions, technical development, and the growth of the Wire EDM applications team.

    Candidates located near Sudbury, MA are preferred. Candidates within commuting distance of other company facilities may also be considered but must be comfortable traveling to Sudbury regularly.

    Compensation: Approximately $140K–$180K+, with flexibility for highly qualified candidates.
