What We're Looking For:

If you are a Software Developer with 5 or more years of experience and are skilled in Laravel, PHP, Java, Spring Boot, SOAP, RESTFul Web Services, Microservices, React.js, Node.js, then you will be excited about the Applications Programmer III opening with Iridium on our B/OSS Billing Development team! As an Applications Programmer III, you'll be responsible for working autonomously to design and Front end UI, develop API in and Java based middleware and lead full stack development within the B/OSS delivery team. This role requires in-depth knowledge of development, maintenance, and support of multiple core software systems within the development team product catalogue and will also provide technical support, as required, to supplement the operations and other support teams. You will succeed in this role if you are analytical and have strong communication skills as well as the ability to translate functional requirements into technical design.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain PHP-based user interfaces and APIs using the Laravel framework, along with Java-based middleware services leveraging SOAP and RESTful web service architectures
• Develop, containerize, and deploy microservices-based applications onto OpenShift/Kubernetes platforms
• Contribute to the efforts to modernize our applications with the latest tools and technologies
• Build event-driven applications using Kafka and RabbitMQ
• Optimize in-memory data processing and caching using Redis
• Play a key role in Agile Scrum team software development cycle, including design discussions and work closely with product owner, line of business, quality assurance, and operations support teams
• Independently delivers high-quality work and drives projects/deliverables to completion
• Responsible for development and execution of process/procedure and required training materials
• Conduct review of peer code against team agreed code standards and industry best practices, mentor the junior members in the team, and provide the needed technical guidance
• Produce new builds/patches and deployments upon completion of development tasks
• Support the integration, documentation, and launch of new product offerings throughout the release/development cycle
• Present the documented API changes for customer integration
• Work collaboratively with the development and testing teams

What You'll Need to Succeed:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing scalable, secure, and high-performance applications using PHP (Laravel) and Java (Spring Boot), along with modern JavaScript technologies including React.js and Node.js for full-stack and API-driven architectures
• Strong understanding of RESTful services, MVC patterns, microservices design, and integration best practices
• 5+ years of experience in relational databases such as MySQL and Oracle and Cassandra (NoSQL)
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes or OpenShift)
• Create and maintain Kubernetes resources (YAML manifests) such as Pods, Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, and Ingress/Routes
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Skilled at translating functional requirements into technical design
• Must be able to understand and follow-up on various complex technical issues (sizing, performance, business logic, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
• Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team
• Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions
• Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
• Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

• Strong technical knowledge of and experience in telecommunications or BSS/OSS systems

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer. For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able to stand, walk within the office, and climb stairs on occasion. We believe in-person connection drives innovation, strengthens mentorship, and builds culture, while flexibility enables employees to do their best work. Under Iridium's Hybrid Work Policy, employees are expected to work at least three days per week (approximately 60%) in an Iridium office to support collaboration, relationship-building, and professional growth.
