Description

If you ask most people how they feel about their health insurance, the answer is usually frustrated. Long waits, confusing portals, surprise bills, and constant uncertainty about cost. It's one of the few products people pay thousands for but dread using.AI has changed how people access health information - you can ask about symptoms, compare treatment options, and get nutrition guidance in seconds. But chatbots can't order labs, prescribe medications, or coordinate benefits. And incumbent insurers are years behind on modern, consumer-grade experiences.Arlo is building a new front door to healthcare: an AI-first experience that decodes your benefits, estimates costs before care, and books the right provider, then closes the loop with human clinicians to make sure care actually happens. Because we pair this with a full-stack insurance product, coverage, navigation, and payment work together instead of fighting each other. Our approach is working. We've grown from zero to tens of thousands of members in under a year, and we are just getting started. If you're excited to fundamentally rebuild a system that impacts millions, we'd love to talk. What You'll DoAs an Applied AI Engineer, you will own the end-to-end development of core product experiences that redefine how our members interact with their healthcare.Architect and ship new AI-native features that serve tens of thousands of members.Build and deploy sophisticated LLM-powered agents that autonomously reason through complex healthcare workflows.Evolve our core AI stack by advancing our capabilities in prompt orchestration, context engineering, retrieval systems, and evaluations. To give you a sense of the impact youll have, here are some initial projects you could own:AI-Powered Triage: Develop an intelligent experience that helps patients understand their symptoms and guides them to the right setting of care (ER, Urgent Care, or PCP). You'll prevent costly, unnecessary visits and directly save members thousands in out-of-pocket costs. An Infinitely Scalable Care Partner: Build a conversational AI to help patients understand their health, from decoding lab results to clarifying treatment plans. Youll give members the 24/7 support and infinite patience that the traditional system simply cannot offer.Proactive Health Engine: Pioneer an outreach tool that analyzes claims data to send personalized, timely campaigns for preventive screenings and medication adherence. You'll transform healthcare from a system of static, soulless emails into one of dynamic, personal engagement. What We're Looking ForThis role is a great fit if you are a product-minded engineer who thrives on building with the latest AI technology.Demonstrated experience shipping full-stack AI products, from backend infrastructure (Python, Postgres) to production LLM applications.A strong product intuition and deep intellectual curiosity, with a passion for building 0-to-1 experiences in a fast-paced startup environment. You own problems end-to-end.A pragmatic approach to LLM safety and reliability, with hands-on experience implementing guardrails, red-teaming, and creating evaluation frameworks to manage trade-offs between performance, cost, and latency.Fluency with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate your development workflow.Nice to HavesExperience with our front-end stack (TypeScript, React).Familiarity with deploying AI workloads on a major cloud platform (AWS, etc.).Why Youll Love Building at ArloSolve a Problem That Matters. Healthcare is one of the most personal and broken parts of modern life. You wont just be writing code; youll be building a product that directly improves peoples lives during their most vulnerable moments. We're looking for people who feel the urgency of this mission and are driven to do the hard, gritty work to solve it.Own Outcomes, Not Tickets. We hire great people and give them the context and freedom to do their best work. You will own entire problem areas end-to-end, from understanding member needs to shipping the solution. This is a role for someone who wants to define the what and the why, not just execute on the how.Shape Our Trajectory. We have product-market fit and are growing faster than we can keep up. Joining now means you'll have an outsized impact not just on our product, but on our engineering culture and the future of the company itself.Build with an A-Team. You'll work alongside a tight-knit, high-performing team of engineers, designers, and operators who are as passionate about our mission as you are.Compensation and BenefitsBase Salary: $210,000 - $230,000Meaningful Ownership: A significant equity grant in a high-growth, venture-backed company. We want you to own the outcome of your work and share in our collective success.Top-Tier Health Coverage: 100% employer-paid premiums for comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance.On-site Perks: Daily lunches and snacks
