Multiple positions are available in the real property division.

The Board of Assessors is looking for three (3) Appraisers I to join their team. Do you have an Associate Degree or two (2) years of experience? Apply today.

Examples of Duties

  • Appraise tangible personal property or real property for assessment purposes, conduct field reviews, locate assets and property for appraisals, and gather and record data affecting values.
  • Use drawing skills for accurate diagrams of buildings and property.
  • Make calculations, apply data to appraisals, and prepare detailed records for calculating appraised values.
  • Apply and interpret state and local property assessments and appraisal laws.
  • Appraise the fair market value of taxable and non-taxable property.
  • Use your oral and written communication skills as you defend values before the Board of Equalization, research and gather data for Superior Court cases, and testify as needed.
  • Utilize a computer to perform data entry, research, and other clerical duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Real Estate, Construction, Business, Accounting, or a related field, or
  • At least two (2) years of experience and training in property evaluation, appraisal, assessment, or a closely related field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be able to lift and move at least 20 pounds.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must have completed the qualifications of the Appraiser I exam or can complete the qualifications of the Appraiser I exam within a specified timeframe.
  • The ability to utilize handheld terminals is desirable.

Supplemental Information

Upon voluntary termination of employment of fewer than 12 months of service, employee must reimburse the Board of Assessors for training and testing expenses. Candidate will be subject to a 12-month probationary period.

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.

In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.

Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.

CHATHAM COUNTY BENEFITS PLANS

Eligibility for benefits begins on your date of hire.

Full-time employees working a regular schedule of 30 or more hours per week are eligible for County benefits. Part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees are not eligible to participate in the County benefit plan. However, regular part-time employees accrue prorated vacation and sick leave based on their schedule.

VISION - The vision plan offers a comprehensive eye exam and options for frames, lenses, and contact lenses.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS - Chatham County offers Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts through payroll deduction. The Medical FSA has a rollover feature equal to the annual Federal maximum.
