Apprentice/Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT)

About the Role

We’re hiring a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) Apprentice to support our certified testers in the field and learn the trade from the ground up. This is an entry‐level role for someone who is reliable, honest, and ready to build a long‐term career in cross‐connection control and backflow testing. Daily travel throughout our regional service area is required.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with field testing of backflow prevention assemblies
• Prepare tools and equipment before each job
• Communicate with customers about testing, water shutoffs, and access
• Document assembly details (location, model, serial number, condition)
• Learn installation and compliance standards (ASSE, UPC, USC 10th Ed.)
• Support troubleshooting of valves and components
• Submit accurate test results using digital reporting tools
• Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE
• Participate in company‐paid BPAT certification training

Minimum Requirements

• Interest in earning BPAT certification (training provided)
• Mechanical aptitude or basic plumbing understanding
• Ability to read, write, and record information accurately
• Basic smartphone/computer skills
• Valid driver’s license & clean driving record
• Ability to lift 25+ lbs and work in varied field environments

Nice to Have

• Experience with plumbing, valves, or field service
• Familiarity with digital reporting or mobile field apps
• Customer service or agency‐interaction experience

Working Conditions

Field‐based role with daily travel. Work may involve heat, cold, water, uneven terrain, ladders, confined spaces, and extended standing. Safety and PPE use are mandatory.
