    Job Description

    Apprentice Installation Technician

    About the Role

The Apprentice Installation Technician works alongside our experienced technicians to install and service commercial electronic security systems, including access control, CCTV/video surveillance, intrusion, intercom, fire, and related systems.

This is an entry-level position with an opportunity to learn the security industry through hands-on experience and training. You’ll learn how to install equipment, pull and terminate cable, read drawings, troubleshoot systems, and work with a variety of security technologies.

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, enjoys working with their hands, has a positive attitude, and wants to learn a skilled trade. You don’t need to know everything coming in—we’re looking for someone who is willing to learn, follows direction, asks questions, and takes pride in doing good work.

    What You'll Do

    • Work under the direction of Lead Technicians and Project Managers on commercial security installations.
    • Assist with the installation of access control, CCTV/video surveillance, intrusion, intercom, fire, and related systems.
    • Pull, route, label, terminate, and test low-voltage cable.
    • Install cameras, card readers, door contacts, REX devices, power supplies, panels, and other security equipment.
    • Assist with the installation of access control and electrified door hardware.
    • Learn to read security plans, drawings, risers, wiring diagrams, and device schedules.
    • Assist with system testing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
    • Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment safely and correctly.
    • Keep work areas clean, organized, and professional.
    • Complete daily time entries, project notes, and other required documentation.
    • Follow company safety procedures and job-site requirements.
    • Ask questions, take direction, and continue developing your technical skills.

    What We're Looking For

    • Interest in learning the electronic security and low-voltage trade.
    • Previous low-voltage, electrical, construction, cabling, security, or related experience is a plus, but not required.
    • Basic mechanical and technical aptitude.
    • Comfortable working with hand and power tools.
    • Ability to follow drawings, instructions, and established procedures.
    • Willingness to learn new systems and technology.
    • Dependable and able to report to assigned job sites on time.
    • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
    • Ability to take direction and feedback with a positive attitude.
    • Attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
    • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including working on ladders, lifting and carrying equipment, and working in construction environments, with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Ability to travel to customer job sites as required.

    What You'll Learn

As you gain experience, you'll have the opportunity to develop skills in:

    • Access control systems and commercial door hardware
    • IP video surveillance and CCTV
    • Intrusion and alarm systems
    • Intercom and entry systems
    • Low-voltage wiring and termination
    • Reading security drawings and wiring diagrams
    • Basic networking and IP devices
    • System programming and configuration
    • Testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting
    • Platforms such as AMAG, Lenel/LenelS2, Avigilon, Axis, Milestone, OpenPath/Avigilon Alta, Brivo, and Bosch

The Kind of Person We're Looking For

Experience is helpful, but attitude and willingness to learn matter just as much.

    We want someone who:

    • Shows up ready to work and can be counted on.
    • Has a positive attitude and works well with others.
    • Is curious and wants to understand how things work.
    • Listens, follows direction, and isn't afraid to ask questions.
    • Takes pride in doing things the right way.
    • Pays attention to the details.
    • Helps the team wherever needed.
    • Treats customers, coworkers, and other trades with respect.
    • Wants to learn, improve, and build a career in the security industry.

    What Success Looks Like

A successful Apprentice Technician is someone we can count on who comes to work ready to learn and contribute.

You listen, ask questions, and apply what you're taught. Your work becomes more accurate and independent as you gain experience. You take care of the tools, equipment, and customer property you're trusted with. You help your team get the job done and take pride in leaving behind clean, professional work.

Most importantly, you're growing. Our goal isn't for you to stay an Apprentice Technician forever. We want to give you the training, experience, and support to develop your skills, take on more responsibility, and build a career in the electronic security industry.
