Job Summary

The Apprenticeship Specialist reports directly to the Director, Corporate Education and Training. The Apprenticeship Specialist is responsible for recruiting prospective interns, preapprentices, and apprentices and leading the planning, organization, and execution of apprenticeship focused recruitment activities and employer engagement events.

The Apprenticeship Specialist actively engages with community and industry partners, local school systems, to build and maintain strong relationships, identify workforce needs, and support the development and expansion of apprenticeship and work-based learning opportunities. This includes collaborating with employers on program design, facilitating connections between employers and prospective interns, pre-apprentices and apprentices, and supporting employer participation in recruitment events and initiatives.

Job Duties

  • Provides overview of apprenticeship and internship programs to students, college faculty and employers.

  • Serves as liaison between Apprentice Sponsor Companies/ApprenticeshipNC/RockATOP and RCC.

  • Serves as academic advisor and provide requested data for ApprenticeshipNC annual quality assessment and evaluation.

  • Assists in development and expansion of apprenticeships (adult, incumbent worker, and youth) and internships

  • Provides wrap around services to Apprenticeship Students throughout the apprenticeship or internship experience including recruitment, academic advising, resource identification, and other necessary support.

  • Reports on key metrics such as enrollment growth, retention, course completion, credential attainment, wage progression, and apprenticeship completion rates

  • Documents student milestones such as skill mastery, certifications, and placement into full time roles to ensure consistent, individualized tracking.

  • Tracks related instruction hours and on-the-job training progress for apprentices and pre-apprentices

  • Oversees the accurate and timely entry of apprentice information into the state registration system (NCRAN) monitor apprentices, completions and newly registered programs.

  • Leads auditing of participating employer partners to ensure adherence to USDOL Apprenticeship Standards.

  • Coordinates and leads key apprenticeship outreach events throughout the year, including hiring events, employer engagement events, employer-site tours, prospective apprentice information and recruitment sessions, campus visits, individual and group tours, in-person and virtual information sessions, signing ceremonies, and other similar programs.

  • Implements effective recruitment strategies and maintain a database of apprentice recruitment and outreach efforts.

  • Works with marketing department and assist in the development of marketing strategies and material to publicize apprenticeship and internship programs

  • Contributes to annual planning to achieve and track specific apprenticeship and internship outcomes,

  • Collaborates with Rockingham County Apprenticeship & Technical Opportunity Partnership (RockATOP) Consortium to facilitate youth apprenticeships, including assistance with meeting minutes, planning and implementing apprenticeship events, website and social media assistance, oversight of RockATOP Intern as well as other pre-apprenticeship and internship businesses and organizations.

  • Coordinates internships, pre-apprentice and apprenticeship course schedules with appropriate team members and manage application process

  • Coordinates with division deans, program leadership, faculty and workforce staff to develop and implement courses and programs designed to meet the training and development needs of employers

  • Teaches Pathway to Employment classes as appropriate

  • Coordinates work-based learning experiences (WBL 111, 121, 131 and 211) and serves as the faculty of record for such courses.

  • Institutional Support

  • Works a minimum of a 38-hour workweek in accordance with College policy

  • Attends meetings, conferences, seminars, briefings, and training sessions called to expedite the business of the college.

  • Attends extracurricular functions such as graduation, campus fund drives, etc. that promote the collegiate life.

  • Serves on local, state, regional and/or national committees upon request and/or approval from the administration.

  • Serves on college committees as assigned to expedite college business and to be involved in the decision-making process of thecollege.

  • Public Relations Support

  • Presents to large and small groups about work-based learning opportunities

  • Exhibitsapersonalandprofessionalattitudethatreflectspositivelyupontheindividualandthepublic perception of the communitycollege.

  • Maintains effective intra-institution relationships with members of the Board of Trustees, President's Senior Staff, Administrative Staff, faculty, and support personnel of the servicearea.

  • Promotes Rockingham Community College with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

Associate's degree in a career and technical education program from a regionally accredited institution and two years of relevant work experience in a business/industry environment.

PREFERRED:

Bachelor's Degree in a career and technical education program or related field; two years of relevant work experience in a business/industry environment; and work experience in a North Carolina community college.

  • Proficiency in apprenticeship/student tracking systems (e.g., NCRAN) and ability to analyze data for compliance, reporting, and funding.
  • Proficiency in Customer Relationship Management systems, Watermark is preferred
  • Proficiency in Experience using college information systems such as, Colleague, is preferred
  • Familiarity with ApprenticeshipNC, USDOL Apprenticeship Standards, and North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) policies strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of recruitment goal setting and monitoring of targeted student populations.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment, inquiry management, and relationship-based marketing.
  • Knowledge of successful customer service practices.
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management systems
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship/student tracking systems, preferably NCRAN and ability to analyze data for compliance, reporting and funding
