APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING COORDINATOR — Help shape the next generation of skilled tradespeople
Walker White Mechanical, Inc. — Columbia, SC 29203
Full Time | Trades Education & Workforce Development
TURN YOUR TEACHING SKILLS INTO CAREER-CHANGING IMPACT
Are you a teacher, trainer, or instructional coordinator looking to leave the classroom without leaving your calling? Walker White Mechanical is looking for a passionate educator to lead our apprenticeship program — giving young people and career-changers a real, paid pathway into the skilled trades.
This isn't paperwork and processing. This is mentorship, coordination, and relationship-building that changes the trajectory of someone's life. Our training curriculum is already established across plumbing, sheet metal, pipefitting, welding, and HVAC — your job is to bring it to life: guiding apprentices through it, keeping them engaged, and being the reason they stick with it all the way to certification.
If you love watching a student "get it," if you thrive building relationships across schools and community partners, and if you want a full-time role where your work visibly changes lives — we want to talk to you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead and manage day-to-day operations across our plumbing, sheet metal, pipefitting/welding, and HVAC apprenticeship tracks
- Serve as the face of our program to School Districts, Technical Colleges, and Labor, State, Federal, and Veteran program partners
- Recruit and mentor new apprentices — build the relationships that get people excited about a trades career
- Coach and support apprentices through their established training program, tracking progress and celebrating milestones
- Partner with instructors and employers to keep training running smoothly and apprentices on track
- Identify opportunities to improve program efficiency and apprentice outcomes
- Maintain apprentice records and monitor program success
- Represent Walker White Mechanical at community, school, and industry events
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A genuine passion for teaching, coaching, or developing people — former teachers and trainers are strongly encouraged to apply
- Construction or mechanical trades background is a huge plus — you'll speak the apprentices' language and earn credibility fast
- A love for working with young people and career-changers from all backgrounds
- Comfort presenting and speaking in front of groups — classrooms, employers, and community partners alike
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Patience, tact, and cultural competency working with diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ability backgrounds
- Sharp organizational and problem-solving skills — you can juggle multiple tracks and deadlines without dropping the ball
- Comfort with standard computer systems and office software
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of a program
- Background in education, program administration, workforce development, or related field preferred
- Valid driver's license and clean criminal record required
