Job Description
General Overview
Under general supervision investigates complaints of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults in accordance with the ORC, protects adults interests, coordinates efforts with county prosecutors office and probate court, completes assessments, case plans, and summaries, mobilizes resources, provides advocacy and interpretation of legislation and due process, maintains case files. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed below.
- Bachelors degree in social work, counseling, or other related social science/behavioral science discipline
- Plus two (2) years social services experience or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

- Thorough knowledge of:
• Social work techniques
• Interviewing department policies and procedures
• Adult services case management
• Social services policies, programs, rules, and regulations
• Adult counseling department goals and objectives
- Ability to:
• Communicate effectively
• Travel to and gain access to work site
• Recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action
• Exercise independent judgment and discretion
• Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships
• Compile and prepare reports
• Calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages
• Maintain records according to established procedures
Job Duties
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.
- Investigates complaints of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of eligible adults
- Conducts home visits in regular and emergency situations
- Coordinates protective orders with courts
- Consults with necessary persons for client assessments and recommendations
- Informs client of legal rights
- Establishes need for involuntary intervention, guardianship, emergency, or routine protective orders, restraining orders, etc.
- Testifies at hearings (e.g., guardianship, criminal, civil, etc.)
- Maintains and monitors ongoing caseload
- Provides intensive counseling to clients (e.g., individual or group basis)
- Counsels significant others (e.g., family and friends, etc.)
- Establishes and maintains case records and data
- Completes case plans and investigative summaries
- Attends staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions
- Other duties as assigned
