Job Summary

Under general direction of the maintenance supervisor, ensure safe operation of weed harvester by removing aquatic weed growth in the lake. Perform general maintenance and cleaning of harvester equipment.

Essential Duties

  • Launch and operate the City's weed harvester.
  • Dock the boat and offload weeds onto transport vehicle.
  • Basic mechanic maintenance and cleaning.
  • Complete daily records.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Knowlege, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to safely operate the large weed harvester machine on open water.
  • General mechanical knowledge to include equipment repairs.
  • General knowledge of the weed harvesting program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Experience, Education Certificates, and Licenses

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • One year experience as an equipment operator or similar experience.
  • Must have a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Boating Safety Certificate preferred.

This is a non Benefitted position through the City of Wasilla. Please see the information below for the mandatory deduction requirements under this position.

  • The City of Wasilla has opted out of Social Security and instead contributes to the State of Alaska Supplemental Benefits System annuity plan (SBS). SBS is provided in lieu of Federal Social Security (deductions for Medicare will still be required). Participation in this program is mandatory. The current employee contribution is 6.13% of gross wages. Upon separation, employees can elect to remove funds for a fee.
