MizzouRec Services and Facilities

Job Description

MizzouRec Services and Facilities provide quality leisure experiences to all members of the campus community, primarily Mizzou students. Through our facilities and programs, we strive to bring our members and guests an environment that inspires and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle. MizzouRec enhances the student experience by creating a sense of "third place" and belonging with its vast services, facilities and programming - in addition to its unique connection to campus history and traditions.

An Aquatic Event Lead's primary responsibility is to help maintain safety, organization, cleanliness, and efficiency within the Mizzou Aquatic Center during Aquatic reservations. Aquatic reservations often include SEC Mizzou Swimming & Diving meets, Columbia Swim Club Swimming meets, and Columbia Public Schools Swimming & Diving meets, among other events. Successful candidates must demonstrate initiative to solve problems, the desire to work as a team, and reliability. They must also possess leadership skills and display strong communication skills with members, co-workers, and supervisors.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure member and guest safety by enforcing and communicating all Aquatic Center, MizzouRec, and University policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies by implementing the Emergency Action Plan for the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Answer questions by providing accurate information regarding the Mizzou Aquatic Center, such as available space and facility/event hours.
  • Responsible for quality customer service through addressing and resolving member and guest requests and concerns.
  • Inspect facility daily and report any unsafe conditions and equipment to Aquatic Coordinator or Facility Coordinator.
  • Document all accidents and incidents reports and communicate to the Aquatic Coordinator and Facility Coordinator on Duty.
  • Direct equipment set-up and teardown prior to and after aquatic events. This can include leading teams to install touchpads and other timing equipment; setting up computers, printers, and other technology; and operating any of the Aquatic Center's 3 scoreboards, as well as any other equipment that an aquatic event requires.
  • Invest in an understanding of Colorado Timing Systems equipment and software.
  • Event-Centric Scheduling: This position has a large amount of available working hours whenever the Mizzou Aquatic Center has reservations for events, and less hours available when there aren't reservations for events.
  • Assist facility and programming staff as needed.
  • Adhere to all University, MizzouRec, Team Mizzou, and area specific guidelines.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected to serve the customer and maintain the MizzouRec mission.
