JOB SUMMARY:

Assist graduate students with field research to complete deliverables for grant-funded projects. There are two main objectives: (1) Field sampling--collecting freshwater fishes and identifying them to the species level; and (2) data entry--ensuring that data are entered correctly and efficiently into Microsoft Excel. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

90% - Essential - Field sampling. Conducting backpack electrofishing to monitor fish diversity in freshwater streams. Carrying and operating a backpack electrofisher, dipnetting stunned fishes, ensuring their safety in aerated buckets, and identifying them to the species leve.

5% - Essential - Preparation for field work. Cleaning and storing field gear, fixing field gear as needed (e.g., patching waders or holes in dipnets, etc.), and preparing for sampling (making lists, etc.).

5% - Essential - Data entry. Entering field-collected data into Microsoft Excel, double-checking data for quality control.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - High School or Equivalent - Work experience in a clinical or research setting.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - 1st Associates Degree - Completion of any amount of college level courses; major/minor in biology, wildlife and fisheries biology, ecology, or similar focus area.

Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000

Work Experience - 1+ years and completion of any amount of coursework in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology or Biology.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the departments budget.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

90% - Stand for prolonged period

90% - Walk or move about

90% - Use hands or feet to operate or handle machinery, equipment, etc

WORKING CONDITIONS:

90% - Exposure to heat or cold

90% - Exposure to dust/fumes

90% - Wet or humid

90% - Electrical hazards

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Anticipated Hourly Rate: $20.00

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidates previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemsons compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
