Job Summary

Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, the Aquatics Coordinator - Recreation Center supports the daily operations of indoor aquatic facilities at the Monarch Recreation Center. This position provides direct supervision of lifeguards and swim instructors, ensures water quality and facility readiness, maintains safety standards, and supports year-round aquatics programming. The role operates in a complex, multi-use aquatic environment including lap pools, recreation pools, fitness programming, and instructional activities. This position serves as the primary on-deck leader during assigned shifts and responds independently to operational and emergency situations.

Essential Job Functions and Other Important Duties

• Supervise lifeguards and swim instructors during assigned shifts, ensuring proper coverage, performance, and adherence to safety standards
• Monitor indoor aquatic facilities, including pools, water features, and equipment, to ensure readiness, cleanliness, and compliance with all regulations
• Perform and document water chemistry testing and coordinate with maintenance staff to maintain proper chemical balance and system functionality
• Lead pre-shift briefings, assign staff responsibilities, adjust schedules, and ensure appropriate staffing levels
• Provide ongoing coaching, training, and evaluation of aquatics staff, including conducting in-service training and drills
• Support aquatics programming, including swim lessons, water fitness classes, and safety programs by preparing materials and assisting instructors
• Respond to emergencies, lead rescue efforts, and ensure all safety equipment is operational and accessible
• Maintain required documentation, including logs, reports, certifications, and incident records
• Assist with resolving patron concerns and supporting a positive member experience
• Coordinate with facilities staff regarding filtration systems, HVAC, and operational issues while maintaining focus on aquatic areas
• Support operational readiness across all indoor aquatic environments, including multiple pools and program spaces
• Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.

Job Qualifications

Formal Education: An associate's degree in Recreation, Aquatic Management, Exercise Science, Public Administration, a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Relatable Work Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in aquatics operations. Experience supervising lifeguards or aquatic staff is required.

Training, Licenses, and Certifications: CPR/AED and First Aid certification must be obtained within six months of hire. Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification must be obtained within six months of hire. Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications must be obtained within six months of hire. A valid Class C Texas driver's license is required

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in municipal aquatics operations. Experience working in year-round indoor aquatic environments. Experience working in multi-pool or high-volume aquatic facilities.

One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. Environmental Factors and Other Physical Requirements:

• Work is performed in indoor aquatic environments with high humidity and noise
• Requires standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing water rescues
• Exposure to chemicals, water, and active program environments
• Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
