Overview

The Aquatics Instructor positively encourages students to explore and learn the skills needed to swim safely. This position organizes classes and guides students through swimming skill acquisition and objectives as outlined in the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program. The objective of the position is to safely teach swimming skills to students aged 6 months old up advancing students through the levels of classes as their skills developing and promoting maximum enrollment in the swimming lessons program by providing high-quality instruction and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Teach swimming to children ages 6 months to 10 years primarily adolescents adults and toddlers may also be taught in classes designed for those age groups • Positively and safely encourage students to explore and learn the skill taught and advance students through class levels • Communicate with the parents and guardians of their students providing information on what skills are being taught, how the student is progressing through the class, and when the student is ready to advance to the next level of skills • Act as lifeguards when assigned by the facility manager • Assist in the daily operations of aquatic facilities, including opening, assisting guests, providing programming information, and collecting fees • Attend regularly scheduled training sessions and audits, demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to perform rescue first aid and emergency response skills during scheduled or random audits • Assist in the daily operations of aquatic facilities, including cleaning and following risk management procedures

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

Non-Exempt-Temp-Part-Time-10 hours a week Must be available to work additional hours as needed Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent, or current student No prior experience is required Must be at least 16 years of age

Licenses and Certifications Required

• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Certification Provided by the City before job assignment
