Job Description
The City of Avondale is accepting applications for the Parks, Recreation & Libraries 2026 Aquatic Season.
This recruitment will be used to fill existing vacancies and establish a cert list for the 2026 Aquatic Season.
Applications are being accepted continuously until positions are filled. The first review of applications will be on June 29, 2026, with weekly reviews thereafter. These positions are temporary and will work a varied schedule beginning in January 2026 (based on the position). Please see the season schedule below.

Shallow Water Lifeguard - Pay: $16.39
Lifeguard - Pay: $17.78
Swim Lesson Instructor - Pay: $19.29
Temporary employees may be required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) if they work 20 or more hours per week for at least 20 weeks within a fiscal year. Participation may also be required if the employee is already contributing to ASRS through another employer.
Temporary employees hired on or after March 4, 2024, will accrue sick leave at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours. Accrued sick leave may be used beginning on the 90th calendar day of employment.

The summer season runs from June through July and includes operations on weekdays from 5 am - 10 pm, weekends from 7 am - 10 pm, and trainings on Friday mornings. Please list any potential scheduling conflicts for the summer season.

The fall season runs from August through October and includes operations on weekday mornings 5 - 7:30 am, evenings 2 - 7:30 pm, and weekends 7 am - 7 pm, and trainings on Monday evenings and Sunday mornings. Please list any potential scheduling conflicts for the fall season.

I understand a valid Lifeguard Certification and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer Certification is required within 30 days of hire.

If invited to interview, the interview will consist of verifying position requirements, scheduling availability, uniform sizing, an oral interview, and a swim test. The swim test will consist of a 100-yard swim, retrieving a brick from the bottom of the pool, and a one-minute tread without using hands. I acknowledge the interview/testing process.
