Aquatics Program Coordinator, Part Time (all year) - City of Columbus

The City of Columbus has a current job opening and is accepting applications for the position of a part-time Aquatics Program Coordinator (all year).

This position creates, oversees and works with aquatic Lifeguard, Water Safety and Fitness programs and activities, while providing guidance to the aquatic staff and assisting the Aquatic Center Manager and the Plunge Seasonal Manager.

The employee serves in any aquatic position as needed, including lifeguard and aquatic supervisor, will follow and enforce pool policies and rules, is responsible for coordinating aquatic programs and providing direct supervision of instructors, lifeguards, and program staff during assigned activities at both the indoor/outdoor aquatic facilities.

Work is performed under the direction and guidance of the Aquatic Center Manager and Plunge Manager with the employee exercising judgement in the planning and implementation of programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coordinates and instructs designated aquatic programs and activities; evaluates student progress and maintains student records; assigns and reviews the work of instructors.
  • Supervises the training of lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors; updates certifications; reviews and evaluates the work of lifeguards and instructors.
  • Works with the Aquatic Center Manager and Plunge Seasonal Manager to schedule aquatic staff; fills in for staff as needed
  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons at all times; acts immediately and appropriately in the event of an emergency. Ensures the enforcement of pool policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Provides appropriate rescues with the use of proper equipment; provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of EMS; completes appropriate paperwork and follow-up procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience directly related to the duties of the position.

  • Experience and background in supervising and leading others.

  • Within the initial 30 days of employment in the position, must possess and maintain the following certifications:

  • Waterpark Lifeguarding

  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI), Lifeguard Instructor

  • Nebraska Pool Operator

  • Within the initial 24 months of employment in the position, must possess and maintain the following certifications:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT)

  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT)

Benefits

  • Salary is $20.00 per hour
  • Offers prorated vacation, sick leave and pension benefit
