We are seeking an Archaeological Principal Investigator to join our team full-time. The ideal candidate will be able to design, conduct, and report on archaeological investigations of all types (pre-contact, historic, industrial, rural, urban) and phases (background research, survey, evaluation, mitigation) to regulatory agency standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior staff in project design and proposal preparation.
  • Direct field crews on all phases of archaeological investigation on a variety of projects.
  • Complete archaeological site forms to SHPO standards.
  • Prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations in collaboration with senior staff and the Laboratory Director.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to ensure compliance with cultural resource regulations.
  • Assist in the development of mitigation plans for cultural resources affected by development projects.

Qualifications:

  • M.A/M.S. or higher in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a related field.
  • Completion of a certified archaeological field school.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cultural resources management.
  • Experience directing fieldwork for CRM projects; Mid-Atlantic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant historic preservation laws, regulations, and guidelines, including the NHPA Section 106 process.
  • Experience writing technical reports and conducting fieldwork.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting and walking on uneven surfaces carrying at least 20 lbs. of equipment, and ability to work in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship; ability to pass drug screening; must have a valid driver’s license in good standing with a minimum of 3 years’ licensed driving experience.
