Architect: Building, Site & Sustainability Engineering Team

Meta is seeking an Architect experienced in the design and construction of Critical Facilities to become part of our Data Center Design-Engineering Organization: Building, Site and Sustainability Engineering team.

Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates. Building and operating reliable and efficient data centers is essential to support the growth of Meta. The Data Center Design-Engineering organization collaborates with all key stakeholders to ensure design and engineering of our data centers incorporate considerations from micro-levels (servers and IT equipment design requirements) to macro-levels (mechanical cooling and power distribution options) to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability of our compute infrastructure.

As an integral part of the Building, Site & Sustainability Engineering Team, the BSSE Architect will collaborate with multiple stakeholders including cross-discipline partners across the Design Engineering organization; internal partners including Strategic Systems & Technology, Site Development, Planning & Development, Construction Management, and Operations Teams, in addition to external partners including Architects and Engineers of Record (AEoR), general contractors, and regulatory agencies to support the delivery of data center capacity safely, on time, within budget, and of high quality, aligned with the pace of fast-tracked design and construction.Provide Architecture Discipline Technical leadership for DC Product Concept Development through Project Deployment, supporting the full life-cycle Architect for new DC Product Concepts Administer Change Management including providing technical inputs, adjudication and/or escalation of key issues or changes, and progressing changes through internal processes Provide Architecture standards inputs and review for the Standards Program Serve as Architect Lead for MOFE/OFE/Prefab Program Lead Architecture discipline information-sharing, lessons learned coordination and implementation, New Hire onboarding and cross-discipline collaboration Provide technical inputs and direction to ensure embedment of prior lessons learned into new DC Products and initiatives Facilitate regular project meetings, retrospectives, and reviews to drive transparency and continuous improvement Scope, manage and administer project/program level Contracts, review/approve change cost proposals, value engineering proposals, invoices, vendor reports/audits/studies and other design-related deliverables Lead R&D Materials and Novel Technologies, aligning with Sustainability and Net Zero team to drive Program improvements Deliver technical roadmap initiatives (R&D) including novel building systems, and new core & shell system topologies and configurations Set strategies, scope, project-manage and deliver to the Meta DC program priorities, including space planning, material efficiencies, sustainability goals, CapEx reduction, OpEx reduction, and speed to market in construction Serve as BSSE holistic tooling lead, consolidating all BSSE AI Tooling/Global Site Dev/SLiM and Campus Planning Strategies Work across multiple disciplines within BSSE (Civil, Structural, Architecture, Fire Strategy, DAS and Sustainability) to build comprehensive tooling infrastructure strategy that delivers on internal and external project life-cycle/E2E goals and reporting Consolidate existing internal tools and external industry-standard tools to improve Design Engineering, Building Site & Sustainability Engineering, and Data Center Engineering teams' efficiency in site pipelining from site development, site intake, planning and development, preconstruction, to project approval stage, and onwards through Project Design and Execution phasesRegistered Architect 12+ years of professional experience in mission-critical campus and building design, construction and/or operations Experience on large scale design and construction projects Experience with industry standards, building codes and safety standards Experience in full datacenter project life-cycle activities (including producing site test fits, product and concept design development, and supporting partner Design and Construction teams, to enable successful construction then turnover to Operations) Experience in establishing and maintaining design standards and governance of same Experience with Google Suite, Revit/BIM, Bluebeam, Autodesk, ACC, or similar design software applications Experience in AI tooling, including modelling/drafting, tool interface management and setting organizational tooling objectives and roadmap Project Management experience Knowledge of building systems design and architectural details for steel, concrete, and mass timber structures Knowledge in geotechnical/soils design, concrete and steel structural design, landscape architecture, sustainable design, interior/exterior finish systems, and design of culinary and physical security systems Knowledge of mission critical building systems, including mechanical, electrical, controls, fire protection and connectivity/telecoms systems Knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and safety standards including IBC, ASCE, and European equivalents Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs Analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills Experience providing solutions to complex projects under pressure Presentation and communication skills to peers, stakeholders and leadership Effective communication skills; fluent in English, as the role requires collaboration with global cross-functional teams and external partners in English-speaking contexts Experience on large scale Data Center masterplanning, concept development, design and construction projects Owner's Representative experience, or experience performing Program or Project Management; PMP Certification Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Unifier, Visio, and Oracle P6 Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews) Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements) LEED Accreditation Experience with fast-track construction, schedule and cost estimating processes Datacenter experienceMeta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
