Job Description

Job Title: Project Architect

Job Description

This role seeks a Project Architect to serve as the technical and production lead on a high-priority architectural project where the firm is assuming responsibility for an existing design nearing the person/CD phase. The Project Architect will work directly under a Project Manager to review and refine inherited drawing sets, lead production efforts, and ensure that all deliverables are accurate, coordinated, and aligned with established project standards. This position is critical to reducing risk exposure and maintaining consistent, high-quality delivery across a complex project environment, with immediate visibility to senior leadership and the potential for long-term conversion based on performance and business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Review and assess existing drawing sets to understand current design intent and project status.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and risks within inherited documentation and propose clear solutions.
  • Lead production efforts for construction documents, serving as the technical and production lead on the project.
  • Oversee and direct intermediate architects and production staff to ensure drawing sets are accurate, complete, and fully coordinated.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet project standards, quality expectations, and milestone deadlines.
  • Provide ongoing technical direction throughout the person/CD phases, maintaining drawing quality between milestones.
  • Critique and reshape inherited designs as needed to improve constructability, clarity, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Guide Revit-based production workflows, including reviewing models and documentation for consistency and quality.
  • Support the Project Manager with technical input and coordination on complex institutional and commercial projects.
  • Collaborate closely with internal staff and contract resources to maintain a cohesive and efficient project team.
  • Onboard quickly into existing projects, learning project context and requirements in a short timeframe.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with team members to coordinate tasks and resolve issues during drawing production.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience as a Project Architect leading full production and delivery of architectural projects, rather than only contributing to specific portions.
  • Strong technical expertise in the person/CD phases, with the ability to critique and reshape inherited designs.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Revit, with the ability to review, guide, and manage production workflows and model quality.
  • Proven capability to step into partially completed drawing sets and immediately assess quality, identify gaps, and recommend improvements.
  • Leadership and oversight experience directing intermediate architects and production staff to produce accurate and coordinated drawing sets.
  • Experience supporting Project Managers and providing technical input on complex institutional and commercial projects.
  • Ability to quickly onboard into existing projects and adapt to established processes and standards.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record leading drawing production teams.
  • Stable employment history in prior roles, demonstrating reliability and long-term commitment to project delivery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Revit model management, including coordination and quality control of complex project models.
  • Institutional and commercial projects, providing familiarity with associated standards and requirements.
  • Exposure to adaptive reuse projects and the unique design and technical challenges they present.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with immediate staffing needs and evolving project priorities.
  • Interest in long-term opportunities, including potential conversion based on performance and business needs.
  • Ability to maintain visibility with principals and project leadership through proactive communication and dependable delivery.

Work Environment

The position is based in an office-focused architectural environment in New York City, working closely with a collaborative team under Project Manager oversight. The work setting is fast-paced, reflecting immediate staffing needs and the complexity of high-profile projects.
