Guidewire Policy Center Functional Analyst

Must Have Technical/Functional Skills

A Guidewire PolicyCenter Functional Analyst bridges the gap between insurance business teams and technical

developers. They must master core Property and Casualty (P&C) concepts, Out-of-the-Box (OOTB) policy workflows,

and requirement documentation standards

P&C Insurance Domain Knowledge

  • Policy Lifecycle Management: Deep understanding of submissions, quotes, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements.
  • Underwriting & Rating: Knowledge of risk assessment rules, premium calculations, and product model definitions (lines of business like Personal Auto,

Workers' Comp, or General Liability).

Guidewire PolicyCenter Core Skills

  • Out-of-the-Box (OOTB) Functionality: Expertise in standard PolicyCenter features to maximize OOTB use and minimize costly custom configurations.
  • Product Model & Administration: Ability to configure underwriting authorities, questions, modifiers, and availability rules.
  • Gap Analysis: Skills to evaluate business requests against native platform capabilities and propose viable solutions.

Analysis & Documentation

  • Requirements Gathering: Conducting workshops with business stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Artifact Creation: Writing clear functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and mapping workflows.
  • UAT Facilitation: Designing user acceptance test plans and guiding business users through validation and sign-off.

Delivery & Collaboration Tools

  • Agile/Scrum Experience: Participating in daily standups, sprint planning, and backlog grooming.
  • Project Tools: Proficiency with tracking tools like Jiraand collaboration spaces like Confluence.

Roles & Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering and Analysis

  • Lead workshops with underwriters and stakeholders to define business goals.
  • Map existing insurance workflows to Policy Center functionality.
  • Write user stories, detailed functional designs, and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain traceability between business rules and system configurations.

Product Modeling and Configuration Support

  • Assist in configuring insurance products, lines of business, and underwriting rules.
  • Document rating logic, premium calculations, and data model adjustments.
  • Guide teams on utilizing Advanced Product Designer (APD) or out-of-the-box features.
  • Evaluate integration touchpoints with billing, claims, and external data sources.

Testing and Delivery Coordination

  • Collaborate with developers to clarify functional requir ements during sprints.
  • Review and validate test cases to ensure compliance with business needs.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and troubleshoot functional defects.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies like planning, refinement, and retrospectives.

Generic Managerial Skills, If any

Stakeholder and Relationship Management

  • Expectation setting: Managing conflicting priorities and requests between underwriters, business sponsors, and IT leadership.
  • OOTB (Out-of-the-Box) advocacy: Guiding business users to adopt standard Guidewire functionality rather than costly, complex customizations.
  • Facilitation: Leading interactive requirement workshops, interviews, and playback sessions.

Project and Backlog Management

  • Agile leadership: Managing sprint backlogs, grooming user stories, and defining precise acceptance criteria in tools like Jira or Rally.
  • Scope control: Performing impact analysis on change requests to prevent project creep and budget overruns.
  • Cross-functional coordination: Directing offshore/onshore developers,

architects, and QA testers through release cycles.

Quality and Risk Management

  • UAT facilitation: Overseeing User Acceptance Testing, turning business needs into valid test scenarios, and signing off on deliverables
  • Risk identification: Spotting integration or data migration roadblocks early and driving issue escalation paths
  • Process mapping: Documenting clear workflows for complex transactions like policy submissions, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations
