ApplyJob TypeFull-timeDescriptionShive-Hatterys South Bend office has an immediate opening for a Mid-Level Architect focusing on Public Buildings.Under the direction of the Studio Leader this position performs a variety of duties associated with design expertise primarily on municipal and government projects and related services, to assist in achieving desired client satisfaction, and business results.Required Experience:5 to 7 years experience in the practice of architectureRegistration as a licensed architect is a requirementCompletion of accredited professional degree program with a bachelor's degree or master's degree in architecture, or equivalent in appropriate education and experience.Capable of managing and or supervising project teams of architects, engineers, and designers of medium and large projectsDemonstrate a high degree of aptitude in critical, creative thinking associated with design and the design processDemonstrates a comprehensive understanding of architectural specifications, international building codes, life safety code and current ADA requirementsKnowledge of programming, planning, and building performanceQualifications/Proficiencies consistent with mid-level experience for a motivated and creative professional; able to design with inherent understanding of building systems; capable of designing projects for high quality public/institutional clientsSelf-motivated and able to problem-solve independently. Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and Google SketchUp. If unable to submit your portfolio due to size constrains, please include a link to your portfolio in your cover letter.Responsibilities:Serve as lead architect for projects across our public buildings market through directing the delivery of projects in compliance with Shive-Hattery standardsParticipate and contribute in design and project management through design reviews, idea generation, collaboration, and design work in drawing, modeling and 3D image formatsPerforms architectural assignments under general supervision, independently performing most assignments with instructions as to the general expected results.Direct and mentor junior staff to design, produce and coordinate the design process and technical documentsAttend project and client meetings with design professionals for projects under contractPresents to clients during interviews for new work or discussions of expanding services to existing clientsLead discussions concerning sustainable and resilient design practices to determine approaches benefitting project stakeholders to include in design intent documentsSupports senior staff on content development for project meetings on medium and large sized projects with varying complexityCollaborate with local office leadership and firmwide Market leadership on select business development opportunitiesAbility to coordinate with internal and external engineering disciplines for project design and deliverablesAbility to oversee the development of a complete contract document set for small to medium size projectsWhy Shive-Hattery?Our learning and teaching culture is founded on collaboration.
