    The InformationGovernance and Preservation(IGP)Sectionwithin the Information Securityand GovernanceDivision (ISG) in theInformation Technology Department (ITD) at the IMFplays a critical rolein ensuringthe integrity, accessibility, and security of institutional knowledge and historical recordsof the Fund. IGP’scommitment isto: 

    • Preserve and manage the IMF’s institutional memory, ensuring that historical and operational recordsremainaccessible for research, policy development, and decision-making.

    • Enhance records and archives management systems, ensuring compliance with IMF policies such asthe RecordsManagement Policy(GAO26)and the Open ArchivesPolicy(OAP).

    • Strengthen information governance by implementing retention schedules, classification frameworks, and secure access controls to protect sensitive records.

    • Support transparency and public access to archival materials, aligning with the IMF’s commitment to accountability and transparency with its member states.

    • Leverage technology to modernize records andarchivesmanagement, enabling efficient digital preservation, discovery, and retrieval of critical information.

    • Ensure compliance with global best practices and regulatory requirements, reducing risks related to information security and legal obligations.

    Job Summary

    The IMF is seeking the services ofa qualifiedArchives Officeron a fixed-term contract for theprocessing ofa backlog ofits records.These records will bepredominantlyanaloguein format but may include some electronic as well.Under the general supervision of theArchivesTeamLead, theArchivesOfficer willbe responsible forthe appraisal, arrangement/description, andsubsequententry of therecords’metadata in the online catalogue. The Archives Officerisexpected to work closely with theArchivesTeam Lead,andother Archives colleaguesin processing the backlog. This project is instrumental in ensuring that valuable permanent Fund records are made accessible to researchers and member countries in compliance with the Fund’s Open Archives Policy (OAP).

    Minimum Qualifications

    • An advanceduniversity degree inarchives management,records management, documents management,library and information sciences or related field of study, or a bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of 6yearsprofessional experience.

    • Aminimum of 4 years of experienceprocessingarchival collections.

    • Experience applyinginternational standards and best practices in archives and records management as well as electronic records/archives management principleswithin archivalsystems.

    Knowledge and/or experience (preferred) in:

    • Experiencewith records management systems, databases, and digital archiving tools

    • Familiarity with international standards for archives and records management.

    • Experience performing archival appraisal.

    • Proficiencyin MS Word and MS Excel. 

    • Ability to lift boxes and files up to 40 lbs.

    • Knowledge of digitization techniques and preservation practices is an advantage.

    • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to effectively manage time and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse team and to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels, stakeholders, and external researchers. 

    • Goodproblem-solving skills andtheability toidentify, address and resolve issues related to records and archives management. 

    • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion andmaintainconfidentiality.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    1Archival processing

    1.1Appraisesrecords to remove extraneous, transitory, and irrelevant documentation. 

    1.2Arrangesanddescribesrecords according to international archivalstandards, bestpracticesand internal processes.

    1.3Performsbasic condition assessments andidentifiesrecords requiringdigitization,preservationand/or conservation.

    2Catalogue Upload 

    2.1Addsmetadata to catalogue recordsin accordance withinternational standards and internal guidelines.

    2.2Reviewsand ensuresthe accuracy and consistency of metadata and descriptions.

    The ArchivesOfficer will also perform other duties as assigned by the Section Chief, or Team Lead.

    Only candidates who are currentlyresidingin the Washington DC metro area will be considered.
