Job Summary
Area Coordinators provide strategic leadership for a residential quad of two to four residence halls. Each Area Coordinator lives in and directly manages one hall while supervising and mentoring professional Hall Directors and part-time Assistant Hall Directors within the quad. This structure supports a cohesive mission-aligned residential experience across multiple communities while maintaining a strong presence in each residence hall.
Grounded in the Universitys Catholic and Holy Cross tradition of residentiality, Area Coordinators cultivate communities of belonging, care, and formation while advancing the Universitys sequential housing model inclusive of first-year formation and vibrant upper-division living. As most Hall Directors and Assistant Hall Directors are graduate students in the Universitys Higher Education and Student Affairs programs, Area Coordinators mentor emerging professionals in a dynamic "teaching office" environment.

Core Duties
1. Lead a Residential Quad Community
- Provide comprehensive leadership and direction for an assigned residential quad.
- Mentor and develop quad Hall Directors and Assistant Hall Director staff through intentional mentorship, evaluation, and accountability.
- Directly supervise quad Hall Directors.
- Supervisory responsibilities include:
- Hiring processes
- Setting of expectations
- Training and professional development
- Performance management and evaluations
- Disciplinary processes up to termination of employment
- Guide staff in student conduct administration, crisis response, and case management practices.
- Contribute to divisional strategy, assessment efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives.
2. Cultivate Community
- Reside in and serve as a Hall Director for one residence hall in the quad.
- Foster cohesion and community building across multiple halls within assigned quad.
- Build a culture of belonging, tradition, and communal responsibility within and across quad communities.
- Advance the Universitys quad-based and sequential housing model.
- Foster hall identity and traditions within the broader campus community.
- Support hall traditions, alumni engagement, and long-term student connection.
- Implement educational programming and community-building initiatives.
- Educate students about University policies and apply them through restorative and developmental approaches.
- Partner with Pastoral Residents and Campus Ministry to support faith formation and spiritual life initiatives.
3. Support Student Development
- Serve as a visible mentor and resource for residents.
- Provide support to students navigating academic, social, spiritual, and personal challenges.
- Serve as a conduct hearing officer for hall-level cases.
- Participate in the professional on-call rotation and respond to crisis situations with educational intent.
- Collaborate with campus partners including Care Team, Counseling, Campus Ministry, Academic Support, and Campus Safety.
4. Develop Staff & Strengthen Operations
- Lead recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of residential staff.
- Facilitate weekly staff meetings and ongoing professional development.
- Oversee hall operations, occupancy processes, and budget stewardship.
- Serve as quad liaison with Facilities Services and Campus Safety regarding housing operations and concerns as they arise.
- Provide oversight and leadership for summer housing operations.
Other duties as relevant to the duties of the position or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Education & Experience
- Required: Masters degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Pastoral Ministry, Divinity, or a related field.
- Required: Two or more years of relevant experience working in student affairs or student services, inclusive of experience in conflict and dispute resolution, mediation, and residence life in a previous live-in hall staff role.
- Required: Experience as a supervisor or peer leader. Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.
