General Description/Position Purpose

Area Coordinator (Residence Life)

A 12-month live-in professional responsible for supporting a 2000+ student housing system by fostering safe, inclusive, and academically supportive residential communities.

Supervision

  • Supervise 1-2 Graduate Hall Directors and 7-9 Resident Assistants.
  • Provide ongoing support, feedback, and development for staff.
  • Assist with staff training, recruitment, selection, and evaluation.
  • Communicate staffing concerns to leadership.

Community Development

  • Implement engagement initiatives to build connected learning communities.
  • Maintain visibility and build relationships with residents.
  • Advise Hall Council and support student leadership.
  • Provide crisis response, referrals, and parent communication.
  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer and manage community concerns.
  • Oversee programming budgets and track expenses.

Administration

  • Manage occupancy, records, and daily operations of assigned area.
  • Coordinate check-in/out, break openings/closings, and facilities requests.
  • Oversee supplies, front desk staffing, and payroll coordination.
  • Maintain regular office hours and availability.

Departmental Support

  • Contribute to departmental goals, policies, and committees.
  • Participate in training, meetings, and on-call rotation.
  • Support summer housing and conference operations.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and perform additional duties as needed.

Employment Conditions

  • Live on campus in provided housing (family may reside if applicable).
  • This position is a two-year term with potential renewal of an additional two years, for a total of up to four years, based on performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years' work experience in the college/university housing setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • 2+ years of supervision experience in the college/university housing setting.
