Area Sales Manager – Geotechnical Construction

Industry: Geotechnical / Specialty Construction

Location: Northeast

Report To: VP - Sales

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient Area Manager to support/run preconstruction and business development efforts for geotechnical construction projects throughout the Metro DC region. This role bridges engineering, sales and operations —working closely with owners, developers, general contractors, engineers, as well as internal project teams to develop solutions, pursue opportunities, and secure profitable work.

The ideal candidate has a strong engineering foundation, understands geotechnical construction methods, and excels at building long-term client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Engagement

• Develop and maintain relationships with owners, developers, general contractors, and consulting engineers

• Identify and qualify new project opportunities within the Metro DC market

• Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, and networking functions

• Serve as a technical resource during preconstruction and pursuit phases

Technical Sales & Preconstruction Support

• Review geotechnical reports, plans, and specifications to identify project risks and opportunities

• Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to develop competitive, constructible solutions

• Assist with bid strategy, scope definition, value engineering, and alternative design concepts

• Support proposal development, presentations, and interviews

Market & Strategic Support

• Track market activity, competitors, and key projects in the region

• Support strategic account planning and market sector growth initiatives

• Maintain accurate CRM records for client interactions and pursuits

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

• 5+ years of experience in construction. Prefer a geotechnical background with knowledge of deep foundations, or specialty construction

• Strong understanding of geotechnical systems (i.e., drilled shafts, micropiles, soil mixing, shoring, ground improvement)

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

• Ability to read and interpret geotechnical reports and construction documents

Preferred

• Prior experience in sales, estimating, project engineering, or project management

• PE license or EIT certification

• Familiarity with the northeast construction market and key regional clients

Key Competencies

• Technical credibility with clients and engineers

• Strategic thinking and opportunity assessment

• Collaborative mindset with operations and estimating teams

• Strong presentation and negotiation skills

• Organized, proactive, and self-motivated

What We Offer

• Competitive base salary plus a lucrative performance-based incentive compensation

• Health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits

• Opportunity to work on high-profile, complex projects in a strong regional market

• Clear growth path within a leading geotechnical contractor
