JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:
ARMED SECURITY OFFICER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a NJ Driver's License.
- Retired Law Enforcement Officer with 20 or more years of experience and retired in good standing with his/her agency.
- Possess the legal authority to carry a firearm under New Jersey State Law NJSA 2C:39-6.1
- Ability to work effectively within a school environment.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal, Director of School Safety and Security and Superintendent.
JOB GOAL:
To assist in the maintenance of a safe school environment for students and staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the supervision of students on school grounds including parking lots, entranceways, hallways, restrooms, and in the cafeteria.
- Patrols school grounds and notifies the school's administrator or his/her designee of the location of unauthorized persons or vehicles.
- Greets visitors in accordance with existing visitor management system and provides directions, information, and guidance.
- Directs the orderly and safe movement of people and vehicles in school parking lots and on roadways.
- Reports to a teacher or administrator physical conditions which appear to be hazardous to the students or staff.
- Notifies a teacher or administrator in the event of an incident involving students; any incidents involving physical confrontation; and any incident that appears to be of more than momentary disruption.
- Informs teachers or administrators of any infractions of rules and regulations.
- Cooperates with and provides assistance to fire and police department personnel responding to alarms.
- Provides whatever assistance is required to promote an orderly, safe, and pleasant school environment.
- Works closely and in conjunction with the Edison Board of Education unarmed Security Officers in order to provide security and protection to pupils, staff, and school property.
- Assumes other tasks as assigned from time to time
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of School Safety and Security, in accordance with the Provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten Months-184 Days Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
