Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour

The Andrew Jackson Foundation is seeking a dedicated and professional Armed Security Officer to help preserve the safety, security, and welcoming atmosphere of The Hermitage — the home of President Andrew Jackson and one of Tennessee’s most treasured historic landmarks.

This role combines public safety, guest service, and historic preservation in a unique outdoor museum environment. If you are dependable, observant, and passionate about protecting people and property while delivering exceptional visitor experiences, we encourage you to apply.

 

 

What You’ll Do

As a Armed Security Officer, you will help maintain a secure and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and museum collections by:

• Opening and securing buildings according to operational schedules
• Monitoring and responding to fire, burglar, and panic alarm systems
• Conducting regular patrols throughout the property and grounds
• Observing for safety hazards, theft, damage, or suspicious activity
• Controlling access to restricted museum and collections areas
• Responding to incidents, accidents, and emergency situations
• Preparing detailed incident and activity reports
• Assisting with traffic flow, parking, and crowd management during special events
• Providing transportation assistance for visitors and staff when needed
• Delivering excellent guest service while maintaining professional security standards

What We’re Looking For

 

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
• Ability to obtain and maintain Tennessee Armed Security Certification
  (Training available for qualified candidates)
• Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
• Basic computer and alarm system knowledge
• Professional demeanor with the ability to maintain confidentiality

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to:

• Walk several miles during a shift
• Stand or sit for extended periods
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Bend, climb, stoop, and perform active patrol duties
• Remain alert and responsive throughout extended shifts

Preferred Certifications

• First Aid
• CPR
• AED Certification
• Firearm Training & Qualification
