Position Details

Kearsley Community Schools is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as an Armstrong Middle School Counselor. The position will begin the week of August 10th, 2026.

The Kearsley Board of Education will offer the successful candidate an annual salary per the KEA Master Agreement commensurate with their skills and experience. The successful candidate will also receive a complete and competitive MESSA fringe benefit package.

The District

The Position

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan secondary teaching certificate, NT endorsement or Michigan School Counselor license
  • Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling (preferred)
  • Teaching or counseling experience at the secondary level (preferred)
  • Experience with Student Information Systems
  • Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents and staff
  • Strong organizational skills

Description:

The AMS School Counselor will provide a comprehensive guidance/mentoring program to meet the needs for all students. Responsibilities include consultation teachers, mentors, staff, and parents to provide support in the following areas:

  • Support the social, emotional and academic needs of a caseload of approximately 300 students
  • Exercise the use of crisis intervention strategies
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions
  • Provide academic support to all students and be involved with students who require accommodation provided through IEPs, 504s or other special needs
  • Assist students with completion of Xello and career based learning
  • Assist with end of the year activities related to 8th grade honors and awards
  • Work with at-risk populations by identifying students early and providing appropriate support to student achievement
  • Actively participates in a diverse learning community that embraces acceptance and supports students' emotional and social growth
  • Consult and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs
  • Other duties as assigned

This position reports to the AMS Building Principal
