Thereafter, the position shall be 200 days each academic year (July 1 through June 30). In accordance with West Virginia Code §18A-2-7b, Pocahontas County Schools will be implementing the "Stay Put Rule." The WV Legislature has determined that frequent teacher changesâespecially in elementary gradesâare not in the best interest of students. As a result, the Legislature intends to minimize personnel transfers between professional positions within the 20 days leading up to the start of the instructional term. However, the county board, based on the superintendent's recommendation, may approve filling a position during this period if it is deemed to serve the best interest of the students.JOB DESCRIPTION Pursuant to WV Code §18A-1-1:"Classroom teacher" means a professional educator who has a direct instructional or counseling relationship with students and who spends the majority of his or her time in that capacity.A classroom teacher responsible for providing high-quality instruction that promotes student achievement and growth. The teacher develops and delivers standards-based instruction aligned with the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards, creates and maintains a safe and engaging learning environment, and supports students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. The teacher may be assigned to teach courses consistent with the employee's certification and the instructional needs of Pocahontas County Schools.The teacher performs duties consistent with the expectations of a professional educator as defined by West Virginia Code, West Virginia Board of Education policy, and Pocahontas County Board of Education policy. QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in education or an appropriate content area.Valid West Virginia Professional Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) for the assigned positionCriminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-10 ADDITIONAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSApplicants with recent unsatisfactory evaluations, documented performance deficiencies, or a history of unsatisfactory job performance will not be considered eligible for consideration.Applicants who demonstrate unsatisfactory interview performance are not eligible for considerationApplicants who receive unfavorable reference recommendations will not be eligible for consideration.Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration. Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and sound professional judgment.Engaging in Professional Development: Participates in ongoing professional learning to maintain content knowledge, instructional effectiveness, technology skills, and awareness of current educational research and practices.Supporting Student Success: Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to implement accommodations, interventions, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 plans, and other support services as appropriate.Additional Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervising Students: Provides appropriate supervision of students during instructional and non-instructional periods, school activities, field experiences, and other assigned settings to promote student safety and well-being.Contributing to Student Activities: Supports student engagement through participation in extracurricular activities, student organizations, academic competitions, and other school-sponsored programs as assigned. Performing Assigned Responsibilities: Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or designee in support of the educational mission of Pocahontas County Schools.
