Description

Job Title: Art Director

Location: Remote

Duration: 6+ Months with potential to extend

Pay Range: $140-$150/Hr on W2 (DOE)

Must-Have Skills

  • Illustration experience
  • Familiarity with animation work, directing or creating in After Effects
  • Art Direction
  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Figma
  • Portfolio required with submission

Nice-to-have Skills

  • In-product tech experience

Summary:

  • This Art Director will scale our new illustration style across the org by art directing and directly executing illustrations and animations for in-product use.
  • You have a point of view and collaborate with illustrators, art directors, animators, content designers, engineers and product designers to ensure a consistent brand system across the client landscape.
  • You should prioritize the highest level of craft by maintaining a strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate for this role is an innovative problem-solver with a systems mindset, guiding high-quality outputs through productive iteration.
  • The successful candidate should have strong, focused experience in illustration and animation and the ability to design clear and consistent in-product storytelling.

Must-have Qualifications:

  • An illustration portfolio that demonstrates both direction of, and hands on execution of, conceptual, compositional, and color skills
  • Proficient with Adobe Illustrator and vector graphics
  • Familiar and comfortable with creating and exporting simple vector animations in After Effects

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience adopting in-house illustration styles
  • Highly detail-oriented and a systems thinker
  • Works quickly and efficiently, without sacrificing quality
  • Strong communication skills with non-design partners
  • Ability to think at a high level about how all aspects of a product (content, design, and illustration) work together, and how illustration can be used to strengthen user experience
  • Interest in upleveling workflows with internal AI tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with how to work in product
  • Familiar and comfortable with Figma

Responsibilities:

  • Synthesize product partner goals and user needs into actionable creative briefs.
  • Leverage exceptional visual storytelling and clear feedback and to guide the creation of high-craft, conceptually compelling illustrations and animations that support the comprehension of complex in-product features.
  • Deeply understand the in-house style guide and color palette and scale it consistently across our illustration libraries in collaboration with multiple illustrators.
  • Consistently evolve our in-house style guide to meet developing product needs with new illustration standards and guidelines.
  • Deeply understand how our illustrations and animations are integrated in the design system and flag opportunities to uplevel its implementation.
  • Clearly communicate directions and their tradeoffs to cross-functional partners.
  • Participate and present in team crits, design sprints and workshops.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently and effectively.
