Duties
Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts/appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about the arts
Implement instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time per district Art curriculum policy and standards
Work with a diverse group of students to foster a conducive atmosphere where meaningful art experiences provide an opportunity for each student to achieve their maximum potential
Coordinate performances/displays and reasonable amounts of co-curricular duties throughout the school year as determined by the principal
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment in accordance with the regulations and procedures of the school district
Maintain cordial and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and participate in the business and activities of the faculty
Reflect critically on teaching practice and implement improvement strategies as needed
Using the elements and principles of design, teaches knowledge and skills in the areas of art history, world cultures, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, multi-media and technology
Utilizes the curriculum adopted by the Board, and other appropriate learning activities
Demonstrates techniques and processes in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher prepared instructional aids
Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
Instruct pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment
Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
Order, maintain, and inventory all materials necessary for the school/district art program
Participates in planning curriculum, staff meetings and in-service training programs as are scheduled for teacher
Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines
Performs other duties as may, from time to time be assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
