Art Teacher

Required Qualifications & Certification:

Active New York State Visual Arts Initial or Professional Certificate
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (Master’s preferred for long-term roles)
Student teaching or prior classroom experience preferred
Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards for the Arts

Adaptability to support students with varying skill levels and learning needs
Effective communication and collaboration with staff, students, and families
Ability to incorporate art history, cultural awareness, and interdisciplinary connections

• Plan and deliver engaging visual arts lessons aligned with New York State learning standards
• Develop curriculum that builds skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other media
• Adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs, abilities, and grade levels
• Foster creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking through art projects
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback on artistic development
• Maintain a safe, organized, and well-managed classroom or studio environment
• Integrate art history, cultural context, and contemporary practices into lessons
• Collaborate with colleagues, staff, and families to support student success
• Prepare materials, manage inventory, and care for art equipment and supplies
• Support school-wide initiatives, events, and student exhibitions or showcases
