A day in the life…
Wondering what a day in the life of Pre/Post OR and Cath Lab RN at The Iowa Clinic might look like?
Assess, monitor, and provide professional nursing care for patients under assigned physicians, following established nursing standards.
Support physicians in the ambulatory surgery center by assisting with procedures, patient assessments, transfers, and education in Pre/Post-Op and Cath Lab settings.Delivers patient care consistent with established professional nursing standards and surgery center policies and practices.
Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative, PACU (postoperative anesthesia care unit) and post-operative care in the OR and Cath Lab while maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters and keeping patient flow in mind.
Observes patients for side effects of anesthesia and monitors patient`s level of consciousness throughout the sedation recovery.
Provides pre-operative and discharge instructions to patients including, but not limited to, diet, activity, medication reconciliation, and obtaining a post-operative appointment, if needed.
Assures education is provided to patients and their families regarding post-surgery care at home.

Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Qualifications
Two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting - Pre/Post Op OR or Cath Lab required.
Required Licenses
Current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.
BLS and ACLS Required
