    ASCEND AmeriCorps Volunteers are half-time volunteers serving a minimum of 900 hours of service from September 25, 2026, to July 31, 2027. A service term consists of 20 hours per week of academic/workforce development training and service hours completed at the Volunteer's assigned host site. The ASCEND service area covers the Greater Hattiesburg, MS area by assisting with public health outreach, education, prevention, and engagement efforts that will support: 1) Increasing access to community resources & health education; 2) Improving awareness of chronic & infectious disease prevention; 3) Strengthening community partnerships & public health outreach efforts; 4) Developing workforce readiness & practical experience for future public health professionals; and 5) Reducing health disparities across rural, marginalized, & socioeconomically disadvantaged communities.     Member Duties : ASCEND Performance Criteria: 1) Performance as a Volunteer includes serving productively & effectively across service environments & adhering to program Policies & Procedures; meeting monthly service hour benchmarks; & demonstrating the ability to balance service activities with academic commitments; 2) Teamwork with colleagues includes demonstrating professional behavior & effective communication to resolve conflicts, 3) Supporting coalition-building, partnership engagement, & resource coordination to expand organizational reach & sustainability; 4) Following the program dress code policies; adhering to the daily schedule approved by the host site supervisor(s); completing & submitting monthly time sheets; adhering to all codes of conduct or related AmeriCorps Policies & Procedures, and 5) Additional responsibilities involve serving through the end of the volunteer service agreement period, regardless of the number of service hours accrued.
