Summary

Holbrook Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate educator to join our team as a full-time teacher specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will create a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to meet the unique needs of students with ASD. This role involves collaborating with families and other professionals to promote the academic, social, and emotional development of students, ensuring they achieve their fullest potential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with ASD, ensuring alignment with their specific learning goals and needs.

  • Create a structured and nurturing classroom environment that fosters positive behavior and social interactions.

  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.

  • Monitor and assess student progress regularly, providing feedback and support to promote growth and development.

  • Collaborate with special education staff, therapists, and other educators to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.

  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and involving them in the educational process.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ASD education and special education.

  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior, ensuring compliance with school policies and regulations.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages respect, empathy, and understanding among all students.

  • Support students in developing social skills and coping strategies to navigate challenges related to ASD.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • Valid teaching certification or license in Special Education with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder or willing to get ASD certification w/in 3 years.

  • Experience working with students with ASD in an educational setting is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of autism spectrum disorders and effective teaching strategies for students with diverse needs.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Knowledge of current educational technologies and tools to enhance learning experiences.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about advancements in special education.
