Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at Grand Ledge High School as a full-time teacher specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the unique needs of students with ASD and will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This position requires collaboration with staff, families, and community resources to ensure that each student reaches their full potential.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of each student with ASD.
Create a structured and engaging classroom environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth.
Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to support diverse learning styles.
Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students and families.
Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and related service providers to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.
Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging communication, social skills, and independence.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and autism support.
Engage families in the educational process, providing resources and support to help them navigate their child's education.
Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and communication with families and professionals.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding special education.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Valid teaching certification in Special Education with an endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Experience working with students with ASD in a high school setting is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation processes.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
Knowledge of evidence-based practices and instructional strategies for students with ASD.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Background check clearance as required by school district policies.
