Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at Grand Ledge High School as a full-time teacher specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the unique needs of students with ASD and will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This position requires collaboration with staff, families, and community resources to ensure that each student reaches their full potential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of each student with ASD.

  • Create a structured and engaging classroom environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth.

  • Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to support diverse learning styles.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students and families.

  • Collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and related service providers to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.

  • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging communication, social skills, and independence.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and autism support.

  • Engage families in the educational process, providing resources and support to help them navigate their child's education.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and communication with families and professionals.

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding special education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education with an endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

  • Experience working with students with ASD in a high school setting is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation processes.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices and instructional strategies for students with ASD.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

  • Background check clearance as required by school district policies.
