Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. As part of Amazon's Low Earth Orbit satellite team, you will design and implement wireless communication algorithms for custom silicon powering a constellation of 3,236 satellites delivering broadband internet globally. You will develop Digital Signal Processing (DSP) solutions for satellite modem ASICs, working at the intersection of wireless systems theory and hardware implementation. Your algorithms will enable reliable high‑speed data links between satellites, ground stations, and customer terminals operating under challenging conditions including rapid Doppler shift, atmospheric fading, and strict power constraints.Key job responsibilitiesDesign and simulate wireless communication algorithms using MATLAB and PythonConvert floating‑point DSP algorithms to fixed‑point for hardware implementationDevelop and optimize OFDM waveforms for satellite linksAnalyze BER/SNR performance across channel conditions and Doppler profilesCollaborate with RTL and RF/RFIC teams to translate algorithms into hardwareApply ML/deep learning to signal processing (e.g., channel prediction, interference cancellation)A day in the life: You might start your morning running MATLAB simulations to evaluate a new channel estimation algorithm under LEO‑specific Doppler conditions. After analyzing BER curves, you'll work with the RTL team to discuss fixed‑point bit‑width requirements for your latest equalizer design. In the afternoon, you could be optimizing an OFDM synchronization scheme to handle the rapid frequency offsets unique to LEO satellite links, or running Python scripts to validate your algorithm against 5G NR reference models. Your work directly determines whether a customer terminal can maintain a reliable gigabit connection as satellites pass overhead at 17,000 mph.Basic QualificationsCurrently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fieldsExperience in communication theory, OFDM, MIMO, Digital/Wireless Communication Systems or RF engineeringKnowledge of analog and digital skillsExperience with MATLAB and/or Python for algorithm development and simulationPreferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or experience in communication theory, OFDM, MIMO, Digital/Wireless Communication Systems or RF engineeringExperience in embedded wireless systems, or experience in embedded development in C/C++Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics or natural language processing, or experience in embedded wireless systemsKnowledge of communication systems fundamentals (modulation, coding, channel modeling)Experience converting floating‑point algorithms to fixed‑point for hardware/ASIC implementationExperience with BER/SNR analysis and link budget optimizationAmazon is an equal‑opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Los Angeles County applicants: Job duties for this position include working safely and cooperatively with other employees, supervisors, and staff; adhering to standards of excellence despite stressful conditions; communicating effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, and staff to ensure exceptional customer service; and following all federal, state, and local laws and Company policies. Amazon

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
