    Help Students Reach Their Potential

    TX-STAR Speech Language Services partners with school districts throughout Texas to provide specialized educational services that support students’ academic, social, and communication needs. We are currently seeking a full-time American Sign Language Interpreter for a school-based opportunity in the Houston area.

    This position is ideal for a professional who is committed to accessibility and enjoys helping students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing communicate, participate, and develop greater independence within an educational setting.

    Your Role and Responsibilities

    As a school-based ASL Interpreter, you will facilitate clear and accurate communication between students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and their teachers, classmates, and campus staff.

    In this role, you will:

    • Provide American Sign Language interpretation during classroom instruction and other school-based activities

    • Interpret spoken English into ASL and signed communication into spoken English

    • Support communication access during lessons, assessments, meetings, assemblies, and campus events

    • Work collaboratively with teachers, special education personnel, administrators, and other school staff

    • Adapt interpreting approaches to meet individual student communication needs and classroom settings

    • Help students build independence, self-confidence, and self-advocacy skills

    • Facilitate communication during ARD and IEP meetings when requested

    • Maintain student confidentiality and follow district procedures, FERPA requirements, and professional standards

    • Keep accurate service records, schedules, and other required documentation

    • Demonstrate professionalism, consistency, and flexibility throughout the school day

    Qualifications for This Position

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    • Fluency in American Sign Language

    • Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters certification or Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certification is preferred

    • Strong expressive, receptive, interpersonal, and communication skills

    • Ability to work effectively with students, educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams

    • Dependable, professional, and adaptable approach to working in school environments

    • Previous educational interpreting experience is preferred

    • Experience supporting children or adolescents is a plus

    Work Setting and Scheduling Options

    • Full-time, school-based assignment in the Houston area

    • Monday through Friday schedule during regular school hours

    • Opportunity to support students from elementary through high school

    • On-site campus position
