ASME Subarc Welder – Day Shift

Pay:$28.00–$30.00 per hour(Based on Experience)
Location:Tulsa, OK
Shift:Monday–Thursday | 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Schedule:4-Day Workweek | 10-Hour Shifts
Overtime:Friday & Saturday as Needed

Position Overview

Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced ASME Subarc Welder for a skilled day-shift opportunity in Tulsa. This position primarily operates Submerged Arc Welding (SAW/Subarc) equipment to produce high-quality welds while also performing MIG and Flux Core welding as production needs require.

The ideal candidate has previous Subarc experience, strong MIG and Flux Core skills, and the ability to read welding prints, blueprints, specifications, and weld symbols.

Candidates will initially test using MIG and Flux Core. Those selected for hire will complete the required Subarc weld test after hire.

Required Experience & Skills

• MIG welding experience required
• Flux Core welding experience required
• Submerged Arc Welding experience preferred
• Experience working in an ASME welding environment preferred
• Ability to read and interpret welding prints
• Ability to read fabrication blueprints
• Ability to understand welding symbols
• Ability to follow applicable welding specifications
• Strong attention to weld quality and workmanship
• Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Willingness to work Friday and Saturday overtime as needed
• Strong commitment to workplace and welding safety  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate Submerged Arc Welding equipment
• Set up Subarc equipment for assigned production work
• Produce consistent, high-quality welds
• Perform MIG welding when required
• Perform Flux Core welding when required
• Read and interpret welding prints
• Follow applicable welding specifications
• Interpret blueprints and weld symbols
• Monitor welding operations throughout production
• Inspect completed welds for visible quality concerns
• Maintain applicable ASME quality requirements
• Identify welding or equipment concerns
• Make applicable adjustments during production
• Maintain established productivity standards
• Keep welding equipment and work areas clean and organized
• Follow all company safety procedures and shop protocols
• Perform additional welding and fabrication duties as assigned  

Submerged Arc Welding

The primary responsibility of this position is operating Submerged Arc Welding (SAW/Subarc) equipment.

Candidates may be responsible for:

• Subarc machine setup
• Equipment adjustments
• Monitoring welding parameters
• Maintaining consistent weld quality
• Following applicable welding procedures
• Inspecting completed welds
• Identifying welding defects
• Maintaining production requirements
• Supporting ASME-quality fabrication  

Previous hands-on Subarc experience is preferred.

MIG & Flux Core Welding

Candidates must have experience with:

• MIG / GMAW welding
• Flux Core / FCAW welding
• Weld preparation
• Production welding
• Welding according to prints and specifications
• Visual weld inspection  

These processes are also used for the initial pre-employment weld test.

Blueprints, Prints & Weld Symbols

Candidates should be able to:

• Read fabrication blueprints
• Interpret welding prints
• Understand applicable weld symbols
• Identify required weld locations
• Follow welding specifications
• Determine component orientation
• Verify completed work against applicable requirements  

Quality & ASME Requirements

• Maintain consistent weld quality
• Follow applicable ASME requirements
• Inspect completed work for visible defects
• Follow established welding procedures
• Identify welds requiring correction
• Maintain attention to quality throughout production
• Communicate quality concerns promptly
• Help prevent nonconforming work from advancing through production  

Weld Testing

The hiring process includes multiple welding assessments.

Initial Weld Test:

• Standard MIG / Flux Core single-bevel weld test
• Used to demonstrate proficiency with MIG and Flux Core processes  

After Hire:

• Candidates selected for employment will complete the required Subarc weld test

Candidates must be comfortable completing both testing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASME welding experience
• Submerged Arc Welding / SAW experience
• Subarc machine-operation experience
• MIG welding experience
• Flux Core welding experience
• Heavy fabrication experience
• Manufacturing welding experience
• Advanced blueprint-reading skills
• Weld symbol knowledge
• Previous experience welding to code requirements  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods throughout a 10-hour shift
• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, positioning, pushing, and pulling
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for welding
• Ability to safely handle applicable metal components and welding equipment
• Comfortable performing repetitive production welding
• Ability to safely work around welding equipment, sparks, heat, and industrial machinery
• Ability to wear all required PPE  

Schedule & Overtime

Regular schedule:

• Monday–Thursday | 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Four-day workweek
• 10-hour shifts

Additional overtime may be available or required:

• Friday as needed
• Saturday as needed

Candidates must be willing to work overtime based on production requirements.
