Summary --------
The Asphalt Luteman assists with the application of asphalt on highway roadways and parking lots.
Duties and Responsibilities -----------------------------
• Distribute and take asphalt material used in construction, repair, and resurfacing. • Raking, sweeping, and lining out the road, as well as working alongside the tractor mill paver and the screed. • Match and finish freshly made asphalt paving joints. • Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to the road surface. • Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material. • Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project. • Repair utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphalt material. • Even and adjust surface irregularities, restore surface finish, spreads asphalt to proper grade and finishes before compaction. • Assist with traffic control barricades, cones, etc. • Must wear proper attire at all times, including PPE. • May be required to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends. • Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements -----------------
• One or more years of asphalt raking experience preferred. • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent. • Valid unrestricted drivers license with a good driving history preferred. • Must be a reliable, trustworthy team player. • Maintain good attendance and safety record. • Knowledge of the paving process and willingness to learn multiple tasks of the paving operation. • Ability to follow the supervisor and other crew members. • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.
Working Conditions -----------------
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday. • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist throughout the workday. • This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery, uneven surfaces. • This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms. • This job requires the ability to see, naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses). • Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions. • Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel fumes, vapors, dust, grease, and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment.
