Position Description
Under general supervision of Public Works Superintendent, performs a variety of road maintenance, repairs, and construction duties.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of asphalt road maintenance including pothole patching, asphalt repairs, debris removal, and traffic signs.
Operates light construction equipment, including pick-up trucks, shoveling (dirt, asphalt or stone) and sweeping associated with asphalt road construction
Assist in operations of various equipment, i.e. milling machine, paver and roller.
Performs routine daily maintenance including pre/post trip inspections, checking and filling fluids, report repairs, and cleaning all offices, work area, equipment, and facilities
Performs construction duties including setting up traffic control, flagging/directing traffic, and utilizing hand tools
Handles road materials including hot asphalt, oils, gravel, limestone, concrete, compounds, and crack sealer material
Perform any additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by management or as necessitated by the evolving needs of the organization.

General Information
Hours:
A regular full-time position, requiring the employee to work 40 hours per week.
This may include weekends and holidays.
Work Environment:
Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials.
Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.).
Physical Demands:
Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending.
Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance; need the ability to occasionally kneel and crawl; need the ability to grasp manual controls and the ability to use foot controls and operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
Reporting Relationships:
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
