Role Impact

The Assembler III is a highly skilled electronic assembly position responsible for performing advanced soldering, rework, and repair on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and very small electronic components. This position will support a specialized flip chip project and requires soldering expertise beyond standard through-hole assembly.

The ideal candidate will have advanced hands-on experience performing precision soldering and rework using soldering tweezers and microscopes to work with very small, polarized components. Success in this role requires exceptional manual dexterity, attention to detail, soldering quality, and the ability to complete intricate electronic assembly and repair work while meeting IPC, ESD, safety, and production standards.

Key Duties

  • Perform advanced soldering, rework, and repair on printed circuit boards and electronic assemblies

  • Use soldering tweezers and precision soldering equipment to remove, replace, repair, and install very small electronic components

  • Perform detailed soldering and rework under a microscope

  • Properly identify, orient, and solder small polarized components

  • Support specialized electronic assembly work associated with flip chip projects

  • Perform through-hole soldering as needed while demonstrating capabilities beyond standard through-hole assembly

  • Inspect solder joints and completed assemblies for workmanship, accuracy, and compliance with applicable IPC quality standards

  • Troubleshoot soldering defects and perform component-level rework and repair as required

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly instructions, and work orders

  • Use soldering irons, rework stations, soldering tweezers, hand tools, and company machinery to complete electronic and mechanical assembly

  • Handle PCBs and sensitive electronic components in accordance with ESD procedures

  • Document completed work and communicate defective materials, discrepancies, or quality concerns to supervisors

  • Maintain productivity while completing highly detailed work requiring precision and accuracy

  • Support cross-training initiatives and assist with additional electronic or mechanical assembly responsibilities as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced electronic soldering experience, including rework and repair

  • Demonstrated experience working on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and small electronic components

  • Experience using soldering tweezers or similar precision soldering/rework equipment

  • Experience performing soldering, component replacement, or rework under a microscope

  • Ability to safely remove and replace very small polarized components

  • Strong understanding of proper soldering techniques and solder joint quality

  • Previous through-hole soldering experience

  • Experience performing electronic and/or mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or production environment

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and detailed work instructions

  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive, highly detailed work

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with IPC soldering and workmanship standards

  • Experience with component-level PCB rework and repair

  • Experience with fine-pitch, micro-component, or other precision electronic soldering

  • Previous experience supporting complex or specialized electronic assembly projects

  • Strong troubleshooting and defect-identification skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and hand-eye coordination

  • Ability to work independently on complex assemblies while maintaining production and quality requirements

Equipment & Work Environment

  • Soldering irons and advanced rework stations

  • Soldering tweezers

  • Microscopes and magnification equipment

  • Precision hand tools

  • Mechanical assembly equipment

  • Printed circuit boards (PCBs)

  • Small and polarized electronic components

  • Manufacturing/production environment with quality and productivity expectations

  • Strict adherence to ESD controls and safety procedures

Ideal Candidate Profile

This position is best suited for an experienced electronics assembler or soldering/rework technician whose skills extend beyond standard through-hole soldering. Candidates should be comfortable performing delicate PCB repair and rework under magnification and using soldering tweezers to manipulate extremely small components. Because this is an Assembler III-level opportunity, demonstrated advanced soldering ability will be a key factor in candidate selection.
