Job Title: Assembler

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling small to large-scale stainless steel laboratory products and equipment through full-cycle assembly and testing. You will independently build and verify equipment using hand and power tools, following engineering drawings, wiring schematics, and bills of materials. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to interpret blueprints with a high level of proficiency, and the physical capability to lift and move components weighing up to 50–75 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full-cycle assembly of stainless steel laboratory equipment, from initial build through final testing.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and general mechanical tools to assemble small to large-scale products and appliances.
  • Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, wiring schematics, blueprints, bills of materials, and work instructions on a daily basis.
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components to meet defined quality and performance standards.
  • Troubleshoot and repair assembly issues, resolving problems with some assistance when needed.
  • Select appropriate tools, materials, and equipment for non-repetitive assembly operations, exercising sound judgment.
  • Verify that assembled products meet specifications through visual inspection, functional testing, and adherence to quality requirements.
  • Handle and lift parts and assemblies weighing up to 50–75 pounds safely and consistently.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively within a team environment to meet production goals and deadlines.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines in a sheet metal and production environment, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Use measuring tools such as tape measures to ensure accurate assembly and fit of components.
  • Participate in the interview and assessment process, including a blueprint reading test, and complete required experience and drug screening.
  • Support a unionized production environment by following established processes, work rules, and quality standards.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent assembly or closely related mechanical/electrical experience (not on a high-speed assembly line).
  • Strong knowledge of product assembly processes, particularly in industrial or laboratory equipment settings.
  • High proficiency in reading and understanding engineering drawings, wiring schematics, and blueprints.
  • Ability to interpret bills of materials and associated work instructions accurately.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform mechanical assembly using hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
  • Basic electrical and mechanical assembly knowledge applicable to laboratory products or large appliances/equipment.
  • Capability to troubleshoot and repair assembly problems with limited assistance.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in selecting tools, materials, and methods for non-repetitive assembly tasks.
  • Consistent work history with long tenure and minimal gaps in employment.
  • Ability to lift and move 50–75 pounds safely and repeatedly during the workday.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production environment.
  • High school diploma, with verification required.
  • Comfort working in a sheet metal and general labor environment, including use of tape measures and other basic tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic and mechanical assembly of laboratory equipment or large appliances.
  • Familiarity with production environments and union facilities.
  • Experience using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and general labor tools in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to pass a 9-panel drug test and standard 7-year experience check.
  • Willingness to complete a 10-question blueprint reading test as part of the interview process.
  • Comfort working in a large, non-temperature-controlled sheet metal facility.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality and performance expectations.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality, including availability for early-start overtime.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members and follow verbal and written instructions.

Why Work Here?

You join a clean, well-organized production environment that values craftsmanship, safety, and teamwork. The role offers a structured path from contract to hire, with clear progression and union representation that supports fair work practices and stability. You benefit from consistent first-shift hours, opportunities for overtime, and the chance to grow your technical skills through hands-on work with complex laboratory equipment. The culture emphasizes collaboration, thorough training, and transparency in expectations, creating a workplace where your mechanical and assembly skills are recognized and developed.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a very clean sheet metal and production environment within a facility of approximately 160,000 square feet. The space is not temperature controlled, so conditions may vary with the seasons. You will work on first shift, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with overtime starting as early as 5:00 a.m. when needed. The department includes around 10 team members, offering a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere within a larger unionized facility. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and other mechanical equipment while assembling stainless steel laboratory products. Steel-toed boots are required, and typical attire includes jeans and a t-shirt, suitable for a production and sheet metal environment. The process includes a phone interview, an on-site facility tour, and a blueprint test, giving you a clear understanding of the workplace and expectations before you start.
