Job Description

This role focuses on assembling components used in eye surgery and fabricating single-use, minimally invasive surgical instruments, particularly for ophthalmology and neurology. You will work with delicate microsurgical devices, ensuring each instrument meets strict quality and precision standards before it reaches medical professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Manually assemble delicate, single-use microsurgical instruments with a high level of precision and care.
  • Assemble components specifically used in eye surgery, following detailed work instructions and blueprints.
  • Fabricate minimally invasive surgical instruments used in ophthalmology and neurology applications.
  • Perform visual inspections of assembled instruments to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
  • Use microscopes to inspect small components and verify proper assembly and alignment.
  • Apply basic quality assurance practices to identify defects and ensure consistency in production.
  • Use hand tools and precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Follow mechanical assembly procedures, including reading and interpreting blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Handle small parts and components with high manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support a safe and efficient production environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in cross-training to support multiple tasks within the production process.
  • Adhere to all production, safety, and quality guidelines during assembly and inspection activities.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to perform manual assembly of delicate microsurgical instruments with precision.
  • Comfort working under a microscope for extended periods, with training typically provided.
  • High manual dexterity and strong hand–eye coordination for handling small components.
  • Basic math skills, including addition and subtraction of whole numbers.
  • Ability to use fixed gauges and precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Experience or aptitude in visual inspection and basic quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Capability to use basic hand tools and mechanical assembly techniques.
  • Willingness and ability to be trained on all aspects of the assembly and inspection process.
  • Reliability in working a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in production or manufacturing environments involving small parts or precision work.
  • Familiarity with microscopes and precision measuring tools in a production setting.
  • Previous experience in mechanical assembly, soldering, or related mechanical skills.
  • Understanding of quality assurance concepts and visual inspection techniques.
  • Interest in working with medical or surgical instruments, especially in ophthalmology and neurology.
  • Openness to cross-training and learning new tasks within the production process.

Work Environment

The work environment is clean, organized, and quiet, providing a controlled setting ideal for precision assembly and inspection. You will work a flexible first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The role involves frequent use of microscopes, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and fixed gauges. The setting emphasizes orderliness and attention to detail to support the production of high-quality microsurgical instruments.

This is a Contract position based out of Saint Charles, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
