The Assessment Specialist II assists the public with verification, entry and maintenance of documents and contributes to operations related to the Sales Ratio Study and Board of Review complaint process.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Research and update property assessment records as required. Verify assessment materials for accuracy, completion, and conformance with established procedures.
Process real estate transfer declarations.
Process Certificates of Error and Correction, Veterans and Fraternal Organizational freezes, Model Home Exemptions, Annual Homestead Exemptions, Senior Homestead Exemptions, Senior Freeze Exemptions, Leasehold Exemptions, Disability Exemptions, and Home Improvement Exemptions. Monitor and remove exemptions when ineligible. Notify owner and/or assessors as necessary.
Audit township assessor rolls, run reports and send questions regarding roll to the assessor.
Process Board of Review appeals including entry in docket, verifying assessment values, forwarding copies to associated agencies and acting as Board of Review hearing clerk.
Provide a variety of clerical and administrative support functions for the department.
Interact with staff, elected officials, and the public in person, by telephone, and by email to respond to inquiries, receive complaints, and resolve problems.
Demonstrate compliance with McHenry County's organization values (Respect, Accountability, and Integrity) always.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; and,
Basic taxation and assessment practice classes from IDOR or PAI within first 4 years of employment.
