About the Position

The Asset Protection Agent supports Evergreen Goodwill's loss prevention, security, safety, and asset protection efforts across assigned locations. Working under the direction of the Area Asset Protection Manager, the Asset Protection Agent actively seeks to prevent the loss of organizational assets resulting from internal and external causes.

This position conducts surveillance and investigations, identifies and addresses theft and fraud concerns, performs safety and operational compliance audits, assists with physical security initiatives, and prepares timely documentation of incidents and findings. The Asset Protection Agent serves as a field-based resource supporting safe operations, asset protection programs, and loss reduction strategies across Evergreen Goodwill facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Asset Protection & Investigations

• • Conduct surveillance and investigative activities to identify, deter, and address internal and external theft, fraud, and asset protection concerns.
  • Utilize CCTV systems, sales floor observations, reporting tools, and other approved methods to identify loss trends and suspicious activity.
  • Investigate incidents involving theft, fraud, policy violations, vandalism, and security concerns.
  • Prepare timely, detailed, and accurate reports documenting incidents, investigations, observations, and recommendations.
  • Assist Asset Protection leadership with identifying root causes of shrink and operational loss.
  • Promptly communicate significant incidents and findings to Asset Protection leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive investigations and employee information.

Safety & Compliance

• • Conduct and document operational compliance, asset protection, and safety audits in a timely manner.
  • Identify workplace safety concerns, operational vulnerabilities, and compliance risks.
  • Support store and operational leadership in maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
  • Promote compliance with company policies, asset protection standards, and safety procedures.
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, accidents, and near-miss incidents according to established procedures.

Security Systems & Facility Protection

• • Perform physical security inspections at assigned facilities.
  • Assist with monitoring, maintenance coordination, troubleshooting, and operational support of CCTV, intrusion alarm, and access control systems.
  • Respond appropriately to duress, fire, burglary, and security-related alarms as directed.
  • Assist Asset Protection leadership with security assessments and physical security improvement projects.
  • Support investigations involving security system alerts and facility-related incidents.

Partnership & Training

• • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, law enforcement, and external partners.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills in all interactions.
  • Provide support for Asset Protection and safety awareness training programs.
  • Assist with communicating Asset Protection best practices and operational expectations.
  • Serve as a liaison with local law enforcement and emergency responders when appropriate.

Education and Experience

• • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Asset Protection, Loss Prevention, Security, Investigations, Retail Operations, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience conducting surveillance, theft investigations, fraud investigations, or loss prevention activities preferred.
  • Some college coursework, criminal justice education, or advanced security training preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations

• • Valid Washington State Driver's License with acceptable driving record, preferred
  • Proof of current automobile insurance, if electing to drive personal vehicle to/from work sites.
  • Loss Prevention Qualified (LPQ), First Aid/CPR certification, Criminal Justice education, or similar professional credentials preferred.
  • Ability to obtain required certifications and training within established timeframes if required by the department.

Computer/Technology Skills

• • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to learn and utilize CCTV systems, security technologies, reporting systems, and other applications related to the position.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and prepare detailed reports.

Physical Abilities

• • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to stand and walk for extended periods, communicate with others by talking and hearing, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, and reach.
  • The employee must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds and operate computers, surveillance equipment, and other technology systems.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color recognition, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Employees must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, including with individuals who may have limited English proficiency. Reliable attendance is required.

Work Environment

• • Work is performed in retail stores, donation centers, warehouses, office settings, and outdoor environments where temperatures and weather conditions may vary.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, crowds, and inclement weather may occur.
  • This position requires regular travel between assigned facilities, stores, meetings, and events.
  • The Asset Protection Agent may work independently while conducting surveillance, investigations, audits, or facility inspections.
  • Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, early-morning, closing-shift, and overnight travel may be required based on business needs.
