Job Title: Assistant Animal Control Officer Hours: (20) per week, Fri – 8:30am – 4:30pm / Sat – Sun, 8am – 2pm Union Affiliation: Blue Collar Starting Salary: Maintainer III - $27.97/hour Function: Under the direction of the Police Department, conducts patrols, law enforcement and other duties related to canines, domestic animals (including birds and reptiles) and all other animals pursuant to Connecticut General Statutes, Town Ordinances and Berlin Police Department Standard Operating Procedures. Receives and investigates complaints relating to animals. Maintains the animal control shelter. Preserve the safety of citizens and animals, and perform related work as required. Typical Duties, Responsibilities, Tasks & Assignments:
Special Skills & Requirements: High school diploma with a minimum of 3-5 years experience working in animal control or animal environment required. Current knowledge of state and local Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Must possess and maintain a valid Connecticut Driver’s License. Position requires qualification and use of firearm/shotgun for wildlife disposal. Physical Requirements: The duties of this job may include physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, bending/twisting, and performing repetitive motions. Requires the ability to apprehend and care for canines, including ability to lift 50 pounds or more, as well as work in adverse weather conditions, and respond to emergency calls after hours. |
